An important perspective in today’s Wall Street Journal on New York City’s carriage horses, the dedicated people who care for them, and the future of this historic industry.

The article highlights the care provided to the horses, the hardworking families behind the carriage business, and the serious impact a ban would have on jobs, small businesses, and New York tourism.

Please read and share.

New York’s City Council and Mayor Mamdani target another business: the Central Park carriages.

📢 30 SECONDS TO SAVE 200 NYC JOBS + NEARLY 200 HORSES 📢

Stray voltage was found at Cherry Hill — the exact spot where Samson bolted on June 17.

That’s where 18-year-old Romanch Mahajan tragically lost his life.

The Transport Workers Union says ConEd found the electrical hazard and cut power at the Cherry Hill fountain. The fountain is still shut down.

But City Council is voting NEXT MONTH on Intro 943 to ban 200 carriage drivers — before investigating if faulty city wiring caused the crash.

This isn’t horses vs. cars. It’s facts vs. politics.

Romanch’s family deserves the truth.
200 immigrant workers deserve due process.
Nearly 200 horses deserve to know they won’t be homeless.
NYC deserves safe parks.

👉 TELL COUNCIL: No vote until you investigate.

TAKES 30 SECONDS:

NYC RESIDENTS:
1. Find your Council Member: council.nyc.gov
Enter your home address and it will tell you your district + Council Member
2. Copy/paste this email + add your name & zip code:

Dear Council Member [Your Council Member’s Last Name],

Stray voltage was reported at Cherry Hill, where a horse bolted on June 17. Please do not vote on Intro 943 until the city investigates whether faulty infrastructure caused this tragedy.

2. Copy/paste this email + add your city + state:

Subject: Please Investigate Cherry Hill Stray Voltage Before Voting on Intro 943

Dear Speaker Menin,

I’m not a NYC resident, but I visit Central Park and support the carriage drivers. Stray voltage was reported at Cherry Hill, where a horse bolted on June 17, resulting in a tragic death.

Please do not allow a vote on Intro 943 until the city investigates whether faulty infrastructure caused this. Romanch Mahajan’s family, 200 workers, and nearly 200 horses deserve answers first.

City Hall tracks every email. 3 from one district gets attention. 50 can stop a bad bill.

City Council wants to ban 200 carriage jobs next month. But did city wiring cause the crash?

The Daily News just reported: “stray voltage” was found at Cherry Hill — the exact spot where Samson bolted on June 17.

That’s where Romanch Mahajan lost his life.

ConEd confirmed the electrical issue. The fountain is still shut down. A café remains closed due to the outage. Yet 28 Council members have already co-sponsored a bill to end the industry by 2028.

If faulty underground wiring spooked that horse, the problem isn’t carriages. It’s city infrastructure. Banning 200 immigrant workers won’t fix damaged cables.

Romanch’s family deserves the truth. New Yorkers deserve safe parks. Workers deserve due process.

Investigate first. Fix the hazard. Then vote.

If you believe facts should come before politics, share this post. 🎩

The union representing Central Park’s carriage horse drivers is suggesting stray voltage could be behind what made a horse bolt last month — killing an 18-year-old tourist.

An important perspective from the New York Daily News Editorial Board on the proposed ban on New York City’s horse-drawn carriages:

Last week’s City Council 9-hour hearing on a Central Park horse carriage ban was either a sideshow or a show trial. What it was not was a serious consideration of the state and future of an historic trade that has existed since the…
