The Transport Workers Union says ConEd found the electrical hazard and cut power at the Cherry Hill fountain. The fountain is still shut down.

But City Council is voting NEXT MONTH on Intro 943 to ban 200 carriage drivers — before investigating if faulty city wiring caused the crash.

This isn’t horses vs. cars. It’s facts vs. politics.

City Council wants to ban 200 carriage jobs next month. But did city wiring cause the crash?

The Daily News just reported: “stray voltage” was found at Cherry Hill — the exact spot where Samson bolted on June 17.

That’s where Romanch Mahajan lost his life.

ConEd confirmed the electrical issue. The fountain is still shut down. A café remains closed due to the outage. Yet 28 Council members have already co-sponsored a bill to end the industry by 2028.

If faulty underground wiring spooked that horse, the problem isn’t carriages. It’s city infrastructure. Banning 200 immigrant workers won’t fix damaged cables.

Romanch’s family deserves the truth. New Yorkers deserve safe parks. Workers deserve due process.

Investigate first. Fix the hazard. Then vote.

The New York City Council is considering Intro 943, legislation that would permanently end New York City’s horse-carriage industry.

The Council has heard from supporters of the ban. Now it needs to hear from New Yorkers who support the horses, the people who care for them, and the families whose livelihoods depend on this industry.

We support responsible oversight and high standards of care. Eliminating the entire industry is not the answer.

Top Hat NY Horse & Carriage submitted testimony today for the City Council hearing on the carriage ban bill.

We made our position clear: Support better horse welfare and safety — not shutting down a regulated industry that provides 200+ New York jobs and cares for 200+ horses.

Our horses work under some of the nation’s strictest rules: mandatory veterinary exams, temperature limits, required rest periods, and routine city inspections. We comply with all of them, every day.

We believe the right path is improving standards with facts and evidence, not a ban that eliminates jobs and horses from New York.

Thank you to every New Yorker who stood with us. We’ll keep working with City Council and the community to protect both jobs and horse welfare.
