Showing the Iceberg Effect of self publishing a book. On the surface, I did immensely enjoy writing, illustrating, and having the book come to life. It’s always been a dream of mine to publish a book. And when it’s something you love, it feels so easy!

But on the flip side, when you need to pay bills, the reality hits you hard. Would I do it all over again? Sure! But I wouldn’t put too much stock into earning enough to pay rent.

Anyways…I know some people are interested to see how much it costs to make a book. So here it is!

While I did sell 24 books, which I super stoked about, the actual net is very very NEGATIVE.

Printing cost: -$372

Tulip day.
Doing some loose watercolor painting in sketchbook while baby is napping. She’s finally napping 40+ minutes so I can sneak in time to doodle, yoga, or watch tv. It’s been soooo good now that she’s been sleep trained.

Thank you to those who encouraged me to keep at it! It was worth it after all the crying.

Last year, Davide and I welcomed our first (and only) baby. It was a very long and arduous road and I feel for any person who wants to start a family and encounters a lot of obstacles.

For this Mother’s Day, my only hope is that I can leave the world a better place, a cleaner world, and more equal world so that baby can enjoy a beautiful and fruitful future.
