The Stunning Paradox of Lake Natron. 🔴

Lake Natron in Tanzania’s Great Rift Valley is unlike any place on Earth. It gets its vibrant red color from mineral deposits, which create extreme levels of alkalinity and high temperatures in the water.

This unique and often challenging environment supports very little life, but for one species, it’s the perfect sanctuary: the Lesser Flamingo 🦩.
They have specially adapted to thrive here, making Lake Natron the most important breeding ground for their entire species! It’s a surreal, beautiful landscape of mineral crusts, volcanic views, and millions of flamingos.

1 o’clock is 7 AM? 🤯 Here’s how Swahili Time works!

This is a key cultural detail you’ll learn on safari: In Tanzania, we use Saa za Kiswahili (Swahili Time), which is consistently 6 hours behind Western time.

Why? Because the Swahili day starts with the sun, at roughly 6:00 AM Western Time.
The Swahili clock translates as follows:
* Saa Moja (1 o’clock) = 7:00 AM Western Time (6 AM + 1 hour)
* Saa Sita (6 o’clock) = 12:00 PM Western Time (6 AM + 6 hours)
Our guides are pros! If they tell you the game drive starts at Saa Moja kasoro robo, that means ‘one o’clock minus a quarter’—or precisely 6:45 AM.

This system is a beautiful reminder to live by the unchanging rhythms of nature.
