Port Bikeshare runs with no City funding and depends on volunteers for smooth operations. One important way that volunteers help is by "rebalancing" – moving bikes between stations so that they're available when needed. The biggest need is replacing bikes at the Parker Street / MBTA station so that they're available for visitors to Newburyport.
Over the past three months our group of 8 volunteers has moved 105 bikes on 38 days. As we expand with four new stations this summer we expect that the need for rebalancing will grow. Bikes can be moved individually by pedaling or in groups by car with an appropriate bike rack. If you're interested in joining our team, email us at [email protected].
