Where to start for Championship weekend... The Motorplex At The Mill is the best race track I have ever raced at! Thank you to the ownership, the promoter, the race director, and all the officials. It is awesome to race at such an awesome facility. To all the competitors, thank you. We don't always see eye to eye, but we truly do appreciate everyone coming out and supporting racing.
Modified
We went into the race tied for the points lead with Tyler. Leading up to this weekend, Tyler had been on fire capturing the last two main event wins. Knowing this, we knew it would be a battle. We qualified first, and we went out a laid down a super fast lap breaking the track record... Tyler went out right after and laid down the exact same time, essentially making it so whoever finished ahead if the other in the main would be the champion. Rolling off for the main we started in the forth position. Unfortunately Tyler beat us to the front once the race started, but we settled in and started charging forward. We had a mid race restart, putting us starting second on the outside front row with Tyler. We came to the restart and at the drop of the green flag it was go time. We muscled our way on the highside and caught another caution while we was side by side with the 66 car a little further ahead. That caution meet the maximum of side by side starts, so we took the next green single file in the lead. We knew the 8 car was super fast and Tyler is a pretty good shoe, so hitting our marks was crucial. Fortunately we where spot on and finished out the main with the W and the Modified Championship!🏆🏁
Prolate
We went into the weekend setting 3rd in points, within striking distance for a Championship but we would have to have a perfect night and needed a little help. It was a double main night, as it was a make up race tied in. Unfortunately I just didn't make it happen in qualifying and ended 5th. With the awful qualifying efforts, it did put us on the pole for the first race. We took the lead early and I guess I stepped on it, as I spun myself passing a lap car. The good news was I didn't hit anything, the bad news was it did obviously cause a yellow and we went to the back of the pack. We battled hard through the field and made it back up to second with a handful of laps left. We had a late race restart, putting us on the outside front row with Championship contender Travis on the inside. At the drop of the green we battled hard for a couple laps trading tire donughts down the side of both cars. Travis did get the best of us and the 18 car captured the win in the first main, as we fell into p2 for the race. For the second main, we started outside front row. At the drop of the green we made it to the lead, where we never looked back. It got a little crazy with some lap cars and unfortunately there was an incident as we was attempting to lap a group of cars that had us spinning to avoid them spinning each other and second place Travis ending up in the wall, causing an end to his night and ultimately dropping him out of second in points. We did make it two out of three for the night on main event wins and finished second in the Prolate Model Championship standings.
