Home again, home again. This piece has fulfilled its mission at the Oak Park Art League (OPAL) member show and is back in the home collection. I’ve not been posting lately. I’ve been working…slowly, methodically, and in a very relaxed manner. I’ve also been busy with other issues, including my upcoming trip to Florence. I hope to be back to sharing soon❤️

Some pieces from yesterday’s kiln. I am testing some different glazes, and my ash is a little too crunchy! I like and incorporate lots of texture, either through stones or wood ash. The next group will be sieved so that it’s a bit smoother.

Wishing them well! I haven’t done a bisque fire in a few weeks, so it is time. Tomorrow I’m beginning some glaze tests, and the next thing you know, New Work.

I have not had anything in an art exhibit since the 1974 Dimondale Elementary Arts and Crafts Fair, where my infamous ‘Seasons’, a series depicting a tree and its changes throughout the year (embroidery on burlap) won a 2nd Place.

I am just as excited to have this current nature-inspired piece, ‘A Yard in Oak Park’ (stoneware, plant ash and wild clay glaze) in the Oak Park Art League’s Fall Members Exhibition. Unlike the Dimondale Elementary Arts and Crafts Fair, it isn’t a judged show, but of course you are free to judge in your head.

The show runs through October 4 at the Oak Park Art League, 720 Chicago Avenue, Oak Park, Illinois.

I knew this mini Solo Stove would come in handy! I am burning a few dried American Water Lily pads from my pond. I only have a tiny pond, so a tiny fire! I am curious how this ash will look on my pots

This piece will be part of the upcoming Oak Park Art League’s Fall Artist Member Exhibition. Since I had to think of a name for it à la minute, it’s called ‘A Yard in Oak Park’. This piece is high-fired stoneware glazed in clay, plant/wood ash, and stones from my yard. It will be for sale after the show.

The bi-annual member exhibition is celebrating 105 years of community art. OPAL is located at 720 Chicago Avenue, Oak Park, Illinois. The exhibit is free, and runs September 11 through October 4.

Since I usually show my pottery’s end result, it’s really here where the work begins. The Illinois native garden is now busy feeding and providing shelter for the insects, birds, and other urban-ish animals, and it will stay standing throughout the winter to do the same. Next spring, after the new growth starts popping through the soil, the dried remains will be cut and burnt. The ash will be next year’s pottery glaze!

After the hectic pace of preparation, I took the week off of pottery to finish a literacy class I’m taking, knit, and relax. I’ll be back at it tomorrow, and I’m so excited!
