Let’s talk about what dispatch SHOULD cost—and what you’re ACTUALLY paying.

INDUSTRY STANDARD: 5-10% of gross revenue

But here’s what nobody tells you:

❌ BAD DISPATCH at 5% is EXPENSIVE
If your dispatcher books you at $1.50/mile when the lane pays $2.20/mile, that 5% just cost you $700 on a 1,000-mile run.

Make sure:
✅ Authority is ACTIVE (not revoked)
✅ Insurance is current
✅ No serious violations

2️⃣ USE RMIS (Register of Known Motor Carriers)
Check broker reviews and payment history. Carriers leave reviews about:
• How fast they pay
• How they treat carriers
• Whether they’re legit

3️⃣ VERIFY BROKER BOND & INSURANCE
All brokers MUST have:
• $75,000 broker bond
• Contingent cargo insurance

1️⃣ REDUCE DEADHEAD MILES
Every empty mile costs you $1.50-$2.00 in fuel alone. Keep deadhead under 10-15% by planning your next load BEFORE you deliver. Good dispatchers do this automatically.

2️⃣ NEGOTIATE EVERY LOAD
Posted rate: $1,800. What you should ask for: $2,000+. Most brokers have wiggle room. If you’re not negotiating, you’re leaving $200-$500 per load on the table.

3️⃣ OPTIMIZE FUEL PURCHASES
Use fuel cards (Mudflap, TCS, EFS) for 10-60¢/gallon discounts. Plan fuel stops at cheaper states. This alone can save $200-$400/week.
