St. Thomas was a hit, BUT St. Kitts bombed...slightly....
As soon as I saw we were stopping in St. Kitts, I said WE ARE GOING TO NEVIS!!! I have heard wonderful things and I wanted to to check it out. Let's just say getting over to Nevis is different kind of journey I was not prepared for, AND not at ALL like the ferry for St. John. Here is the story:
The ferry terminal to Nevis is a short walk from the port. The inter webs stated there was a ferry at 9:30am. So we rushed over there to catch that ferry, nope that ferry isn't going, 10:00am was the next one. As we wait for the next ferry, a wonky boat pulls up and like 70 people get out of this thing like a clown car. I was shocked at how many people were in this boat! In my head I am thinking this is NOT the ferry, it can't be...in realty of course it was. To my dismay, we, by we I mean the entire island pile, in this boat and by the time we get on there were only 4 seats left, so we had to split up. I end up sitting next to a Rastafarian guy talking to himself the whole time, and the kid sits next to another kid(thank God). I start to look for life jackets in case of an emergency bc lets be honest the boat looks like a teenager started this company several moons ago when there was no safety regulations and all I can think about is how we will make the news as "Boat Sinks with Cruise Passengers on the Way to Nevis, All are Lost bc of no Life Jackets." Then I am in my head, I am trying to save the kid like Jack did for Rose. How do I save the kid?? How does she go on??
The boat finally leaves with no safety briefing not even a hello. I am beginning to think we got swindled into jumping on some guys boat for some cash over to Nevis. The ride is 35 mins and it's not smooth. I swear that with every bump(wave) the boat is going to break in half like a tectonic plate and separate and the kid will go floating away bc she's on the other side of the divide!! Now let me say I love boats(size doesn't matter). However, this one looked and felt like it had been through several hurricanes, sunk a couple times and was brought back to life. I will say the "captain" the guy off the street that decided to start a ferry company that day, was a good. I have driven several boats in my time and he was very capable of handling the waves. Even with all the drama we made it to Nevis, found a great taxi driver and he took us to Pinney Beach. We spent the day enjoying that gorgeous beach, had a "Killer Bee" their signature drink, and then began the ferry ride back to the boat. This ferry ride was by another company and had life jackets and a safety speech!!!! It felt a little more put together. I will say the beaches on Nevis were gorgeous and well worth the life threatening ride over! If you have any questions and are heading to St. Kitts let me know, happy to answer!
Anyone else have the same experience?
