Meet Zane 🐾💔 The warrior with an incredible before and after… but his story is still being written.

He was brought into the care of Daviess County It Takes A Village in rough shape after surviving out in the county with his siblings, scared and wary of human contact. Life hadn’t been kind to him, and trust didn’t come easily—understandably so. 🥺

Three of his siblings were safely caught using live traps, but Zane kept his distance, too afraid to let anyone close. By the time animal control was finally able to secure him, he had already been through more than any young dog should ever experience. He had been shot. 😭

Since coming into care, Zane has been healing slowly with the help of vet techs, staff, and volunteers who are giving him the gentle care he’s never truly known. Bit by bit, he is starting to learn that not all hands bring harm… some bring kindness. 💔

He is still learning to trust human interaction, and that’s okay. Dogs like Zane don’t heal overnight—they heal in safe spaces, with patience, time, and quiet understanding.

What Zane needs most is a calm, patient home that will let him move at his own pace and show him what real love with a family feels like. A home with another confident dog companion may also help him learn what it means to just be a dog again.

He isn’t just a “before and after” yet… he’s still in the middle. Still trying. Still learning. Still hoping someone will see him and say, “I’ve got you.” 💔🐾

She seems to do well with other dogs, but a meet and greet is recommended to make sure everyone gets along. ❤️ She also seems to be housebroken, she keeps her kennel very clean! Kova is not good with cats, so she’ll need a cat-free home. ‼️

Meet Ernesto! ❤️ This handsome Labrador mix is 1 year and 2 months old and weighs in at 82 pounds of pure sweetness. Ernesto came to us as a stray, and sadly, no one ever came to reclaim him. While that’s heartbreaking, we’re hopeful that his forever family is still out there waiting to find him.

Ernesto is a friendly, loving boy who truly enjoys spending time with people. Whether he’s soaking up attention or simply hanging out by your side, he’s happiest when he’s with his humans. He also does well with other dogs, making him a great candidate for a home with a canine companion. He has not yet been cat tested.

Oreo Pie is a sweet young girl at just 1 year and 2 months old, weighing around 34.2 pounds. She’s a smaller, lightweight pup with a gentle presence and a lot of personality still unfolding as she grows into adulthood. 🖤🤍

She is housebroken, which gives her a great head start and makes the transition into a new home much smoother. Oreo Pie is also good with other dogs, so she could be a great fit for a home with a canine companion who enjoys company and play.🐕

At this time, we are not sure how she does with cats, and her history with children is also unknown! She can be cat tested upon request and slow introductions with children and a bit of patience will help set her up for success!

Oreo Pie is in that fun young-dog stage where she still has curiosity, energy, and plenty of learning ahead of her. With consistency, love, and structure, she has all the potential to grow into a wonderful, well-rounded companion. 🥰

At 62 pounds, Cheeseburger is a sturdy, lovable boy who’s been holding it together the best he can while shelter life feels a little too small for his big feelings.

He’s believed to be potty trained and has been keeping his kennel clean— just a dog trying his best to stay patient while he waits for more time outside and more chances to just be a dog. It’s clear he’s struggling with the stress of shelter life.

This sweet guy is said to be housebroken and already has some great household manners. He does well with kids and cats, making him a strong fit for a variety of home setups. His history with other dogs is currently unknown, so a slow and careful introduction would be best if there are other pups in the home.
