Do You Know the Real Difference? A Message from a US Army Veteran 🇺🇸
As a US Army veteran and a veteran-owned business operating in California and Florida, I want to share a quick but vital message as we approach the long weekend.
While many of us look forward to the unofficial start of summer with barbecues and beach trips, it is crucial to remember the true, solemn meaning of Memorial Day. There is a common misconception that all military holidays are the same, but they each serve a distinct and important purpose.
To help educate our communities, here is how you can correctly honor our military personnel:
• Armed Forces Day (Celebrated May 16, 2026): This day is dedicated to celebrating and thanking all men and women who are currently serving on active duty in the U.S. military.
• Memorial Day (Observed May 25, 2026): This is a solemn, reflective day reserved exclusively for mourning and honoring the American service members who died while serving our country. It is a time to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom—not a day to thank living veterans.
• Veterans Day (Observed November 11, 2026): This day is set aside to celebrate, thank, and honor all living U.S. military veterans who served honorably, whether during wartime or peacetime.
This weekend, my team and I ask that you take a moment of silence to remember the brave heroes who never made it home. Let’s make sure we keep the “memorial” in Memorial Day.
If you want to read more about the history behind these official days of remembrance, you can check out historical timelines directly on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website.
Thank you for supporting veteran-owned businesses, and have a safe, meaningful weekend.
