Dormont is often referred to as a β€œwalking community,” because of its dense streets and vibrant business district which are accessible from all parts of the Borough. The Borough prides itself on its extensive outdoor recreation areas, including Dormont Park, Beggs Snyder Park, and the Dormont pool. But we also know that we have a long way to go to be sure that all residents have access to spaces to safely walk, bike, scoot, move and play near their homes. Dormont Shared Streets is a program that aims to provide more spaces like these right outside our doors! A Shared Street discourages through traffic, and encourages lower, extra cautious driving speeds. The goal is to reduce and slow traffic to leave more room for the street to be used for healthy play, exercise and movement. A Shared Street is defined as one block of a street.

The Borough of Dormont strives to give its residents more options for safe transit to our parks and business district and more space to play and exercise closer to their homes through a permitting process to volunteer residential Block Captains.

Interested?
Residents interested in being a Block Captain for a Shared Street must first submit an application demonstrating that the suggested street would benefit from this program. More information including application: boro.dormont.pa.us/Shared-Streets

Dormont Councilwoman Kate Abel shares one of her favorite places in Dormont for . "It may not be the most glamorous spot in Dormont, but the Dormont Free Pantry (in the basement of the Dormont Borough Building) is absolutely one of my favorite places.

Through the work of so many dedicated volunteers and funded by the generous donations of friends, neighbors and businesses, the Dormont Free Pantry (a project of Dormont Community Development Corporation) has been able to serve over 300 households in our community since the beginning of 2023.

It is amazing to see the impact of pantry - it truly is β€œneighbors helping neighbors,” and an amazing example of the spirit of community that so many love about living in Dormont.

If you would like to learn more about the pantry or how to get involved, please visit dormontcdc.org/dormont-free-pantry"

Update: Found! β™₯️
Our neighbor Lauren's Siamese cat Frankie is missing. They live on the 1200 block of Kelton Ave in Dormont. Please keep an eye out. He's very friendly but probably scared! Has collar and microchipped. They've set humane traps, have cameras set up, and are searching the neighborhood. He is missed so much! Please call or message if you spot him.
