My neighbor knocked on the door this afternoon with an octopus he caught in Santa Luzia. By 3pm it was arroz de polvo, and by 3:30 I was eating it by the pool with nowhere to be. This is the version of lunch I want to quit spreadsheets for.

There’s a specific shade of orange that only shows up for about four minutes before the sun actually clears the hills here. I’ve started timing my coffee to it.

My name’s Kyle. I spent almost twenty years letting my calendar decide what mattered each day. Out here, the only thing on the schedule is watching light move across a ridge I still can’t quite believe I get to look at.

I won’t pretend this feels natural yet. Some mornings I still catch myself reaching for my phone before I let myself just watch it happen. Twenty years of habits don’t care that I’m somewhere beautiful instead of stuck behind a desk.

But I’m starting to think a purposeful life isn’t the big dramatic thing I used to picture. Some days it’s just this: standing outside, coffee going cold, watching the same mountains do the same impossible thing, and actually being there for it.

Still figuring out what I’m building. But this part, I’m sure of. 🌅
