Epic weekend in Boston for the Stompbox Sonic Cosmodio Instruments SBSXVII - celebrating 17 years (!!) of our friends Stompbox Sonic!! Jen and Adam are hands down two of the greatest people we know. They work tirelessly to make the pedal world welcoming and approachable to anyone and everyone and it’s clear that they’ve made a major positive impact on the lives of so many pedal builders and musicians.

Cosmodio Instruments put this event together with them and it was a 10/10 in terms of vibes, enthusiasm and attendance. So many incredible brands made the trip from all over the country. I was so happy to get in some quality time with John, Brad and Jasper from Electronic Audio Experiments (whose new Scattering was the talk of the show) along with the Cosmodio Instruments crew - Barton, Jesse, Peter and Jack (whose upcoming secret release was another talk of the show!)

𝕞𝕠𝕕𝕖𝕣𝕟 𝕒𝕝𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕤 / courtney swain did an amazing performance and demo of how she uses pedals on vocals (while also repping VONGON and Trash Talk Audio!) followed by an awesome EarthQuaker Devices demo and presentation by Jamie Stillman and Julie Robbins.

Bonus: surprise visits from Andy Pitcher and Diego from The Music Emporium!

On Sunday, the Electronic Audio Experiments crew and Jen and Adam of Stompbox Sonic were kind enough to have us over to the EAE shop Sunday for bagels and coffee cause no one was ready to end the party yet!

My job has so many fun parts, but getting to hang with builders and artists and retailers in person is by far the best. Thanks to everyone who made this weekend so awesome!

The new special run Velvet Noise from Alexander Pedals is for the true lovers of spacious stereo tones. It uses the vaunted Spin FV-1 DSP chip to employ what’s known to acoustical engineers as velvet-noise decorrelation, a process that uses the input signal to generate two channels that realistically mirror how physical spaces disperse sound waves. ⁣

Unlike other stereo wideners that use basic delay and phase shifting methods to create their effects, Alexander’s scientific approach allows Velvet Noise to create a wide stereo image that still holds together in mono, with no phase-y weirdness, no holes in the center of the image, and minimal latency. ⁣

Its single k**b, Width, is a wet/dry blend with maximum decorrelation at roughly 50%. Higher settings add subtle modulation and motion to the mix, for even more width and movement. ⁣

Velvet Noise features switchable mono/stereo input, stereo output, buffered soft switching, and top-mounted audio and 9v power jacks.⁣

In celebration of over fifteen years in the biz, and more than three thousand Hawaiian Pizzas baked, Caroline is proud to present its 24K Golden Pizza fuzz. This riff monster features a few choice points of distinction to set it apart from the original: a gorgeous golden finish, a glistening golden footswitch, and a trio of highly distinguished oxblood k**bs reminiscent of vintage British studio preamplifiers. It’s not all on the surface with the 24K Golden Pizza, however. Under the hood you’ll find a tweaked version of the circuit sporting a pair of NOS Motorola 5089 transistors that impart a particularly nasty edge to the tones, as well as enhanced gain, and a lower noise floor. ⁣⁣

The JAM pedals Tiny Amp Destroyer is a unique collaboration with Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, designed to commemorate the band’s recent residency in Athens. It recreates Stu’s favorite setup - a thirty-dollar pawnshop amp pushed by two JAM Boomsters - in pedal form. The TAD replicates this delightfully blown-out, small-amp-in-meltdown sound, with all its addictive, boxy crunch, while also leaving a lot of leeway for versatility. You can lean hard into that small amp sound, or get a bigger, fuller voicing with a quick tweak of the MAGIC switch and Notch control. With two independent gain stages, each with their own active Bass and Treble controls, as well as an independent treble booster (based on JAM’s Rooster) sitting at the front of the line, the TAD can do anything from low gain drive, to monster distortion, to total gain-stacking lunacy. The Tiny Amp Destroyer also features artwork by Jason Galea, the visual artist behind much of King Gizz’s distinctive graphic aesthetic. As Stu says, “You just need a guitar. And a couple of cables. And a 9V power supply. And some fingers. And then you can be the destroyer. It’s fun.”⁣⁣

The first annual Providence Pedal Thing at Empire Guitars in Rhode Island was absolutely amazing! Huge thanks to John, Travis, Keith and Clancy for putting such a great event together.

It was a total joy to get to see people having so much fun checking out Fairfield Circuitry Electronic Audio Experiments JAM pedals | Handmade Analog Effects VONGON Echo Fix Caroline Guitar Co and Strömer Mutroniks. If there’s a Pedal Thing 2 next year (which I’m hoping there will be) expect to see more MAS brands there!

We had some VIPs come through like Stompbox Sonic and Max from Max! And I was lucky enough to spend time with the absolute sweetest 𝕞𝕠𝕕𝕖𝕣𝕟 𝕒𝕝𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕤 / courtney swain who was expertly guiding people through the VONGON pedals and Replay.

Thanks to all the folks who came through!Pedal people are the freaking best.
