Complete MerCruiser Alpha transom seal kit going into this old pontoon. Bellows, seals and everything that comes along with tearing into an older transom assembly.

Customer called after their Volvo Penta 4.3L GL-A experienced a severe overheat while out on Lake Tahoe. We headed out for a mobile service call to figure out what failed, how much damage was done, and whether we could get her cooling properly again.

Sometimes an overheat is just a failed impeller. Other times, that’s only the beginning of the story.

Yamaha HPDI with a failed water pump housing.

Pulled it apart with the customer and found the source of the problem. Unfortunately, the pump housing is sold separately, so I’ll get the correct housing ordered and make a return trip in a few days to finish her up. This little fishing boat just wouldn’t get up and go like the customer expected. Once we got out on the water and I had him operate the boat in front of me, the problem became pretty clear.

This is exactly why I like going out with the customer and having them operate the boat while I watch. Had I just jumped behind the wheel myself, I probably never would’ve caught this. Instinctively, I would’ve trimmed the drive all the way in before throttling up and the boat would’ve jumped right on plane.

Turned out to be more of a teaching moment than a repair. Showed him the way and got her running like she’s supposed to. 🤙

What was supposed to be a routine prop removal and inspection quickly turned into something much bigger. The inner prop was completely seized to the shaft—we broke TWO prop pullers trying to get it off.

**Bayliner Won’t Go Past 2,800 RPM… Then We Checked the Oil 😳**

This 1995 Bayliner was only reaching around 2,800 RPM at WOT and refusing to get on plane.

What started as a basic power-loss diagnostic quickly turned into multiple problems… including a crankcase full of gasoline.

Sometimes one symptom doesn’t mean one problem. 🔧
