🌞 Staying Safe in the North Texas Heat πŸ’§ 🚌

We continue to do our best to educate and remind our staff, students, and families about the triple-digit temperatures we have been experiencing across North Texas.

As temperatures continue to reach 100+ degrees, we ask for your continued patience, understanding, and partnership as we work to safely transport our students to and from school each day.

*Make sure students are well hydrated before leaving home or school. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

*Send students with insulated/thermal water bottles when possibleπŸ«—πŸ§Š

*Remind students to drink water throughout the day.πŸ«—πŸ§Š

*Help reinforce the importance of staying safe during extreme heat.πŸ₯΅πŸ’¦

Our drivers, monitors, transportation staff, schools and families all play an important role in helping keep our students safe during these challenging summer temperatures.

A special shout-out to Amy Scopac, Director of Transportation at Temple ISD for putting together a great explanation of what so many of us are experiencing across North Texas. Thank you for helping bring awareness to the challenges of transporting students safely during extreme heat. πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ˜ŽπŸ«ΆπŸ½

Safety is always our priority. Thank you for continuing to work with us as we navigate these triple-digit North Texas days together. πŸ”₯πŸŒŠπŸ’›πŸš

🚌 The Physics of a School Bus: A/C During Extreme Heat

When afternoon temperatures reach 105Β°F, our school bus A/C systems work continuously to reduce cabin temperatures. Each bus is equipped with two A/C units. Properly operating systems face an enormous heat load when the temperatures soar.

Why can a school bus still feel warm?

β˜€οΈ More than 20 large windows allow intense sunlight to heat the cabin.

🚌 The metal body absorbs and retains heat, with less insulation than a personal vehicle.

πŸšͺ Doors open at every stop, allowing cooled air to escape while hot outdoor air enters.

πŸ‘₯ Dozens of passengers generate body heat and humidity inside a much larger space than a car.

Because of these conditions, the A/C can be operating as designed but the cabin can still feels much warmer than expectedβ€”especially during afternoon routes.

Our entire fleet of school buses is equipped with air conditioning. During periods of extreme heat, our technicians continuously monitor each system. Any bus with an underperforming A/C system is immediately removed from service and replaced with a spare.

Our school bus technicians are working tirelessly to provide our students with the coolest and safest ride possible.

HAPPY FRIDAY, EVERYONE! β˜€οΈπŸšŒ
POP ON OVER & CHILL WITH US!

Our Transportation team has been working incredibly hard since the very first day of school with these triple-digit North Texas temperatures, we wanted to show a small token of appreciation to our amazing bus drivers and monitors who continue to show up, work hard, and put the safety of our students first every day.

Today, we cooled things down with some refreshing popsicles! 🍧 It may be a small gesture, but it comes with a BIG THANK YOU for going the extra mile during these hot summer afternoons.

We also appreciate our students, parents, staff, and the district for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work together through these extremely hot days.

We don't know about you... but we are definitely ready for FALL! πŸ‚πŸ˜„

To our drivers and monitors: THANK YOU for all you do. Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to safely transporting our students are appreciated. πŸ’›πŸšŒ

Stay safe. Stay cool. And have a wonderful Friday!
