WORKING TOGETHER TO PROTECT ANIMAL HEALTH

Border Pacific Railroad Company Vice President Robert Vale joined regional leaders, state partners, and industry representatives in a recent meeting focused on awareness, prevention, and response efforts regarding the New World Screwworm (NWS).

The New World Screwworm primarily affects animals through open wounds, where fly larvae (maggots) can develop and cause serious tissue damage. Proper wound care, early detection, and timely reporting remain key to prevention efforts.

At this time, no cases have been reported in the United States; however, regional agencies continue proactive preparedness and awareness efforts to help protect livestock, wildlife, agriculture, and our communities.

Officials encourage producers and the public to remain informed, monitor animals carefully, keep wounds clean and protected, and report suspected cases immediately to the appropriate animal health authorities.

Preparedness begins with awareness.



TRABAJANDO JUNTOS PARA PROTEGER LA SALUD ANIMAL

El Vicepresidente de Border Pacific Railroad Company, Robert Vale, participó recientemente junto a líderes regionales, socios estatales y representantes de la industria en una reunión enfocada en la concientización, prevención y esfuerzos de respuesta relacionados con el Gusano Barrenador del Nuevo Mundo (NWS).

El Gusano Barrenador del Nuevo Mundo afecta principalmente a los animales a través de heridas abiertas, donde las larvas de mosca pueden desarrollarse y causar graves daños en los tejidos. El cuidado adecuado de las heridas, la detección temprana y el reporte oportuno continúan siendo fundamentales para los esfuerzos de prevención.

En este momento, no se han reportado casos en los Estados Unidos; sin embargo, las agencias regionales continúan realizando esfuerzos proactivos de preparación y concientización para ayudar a proteger el ganado, la vida silvestre, la agricultura y nuestras comunidades.
