Here is a slightly different post from normal. Since I’m not allowed to spend money on a full suspension mountain bike, I’ve decided to fix up the old 2015 Specialized Hardrock I have to make it as capable as possible. This weekend I finished phase 1 of the upgrades. That consisted of the following:⠀
• Upgrading from the stock mechanical disc brakes to Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes⠀
• Upgrading from a 3x drivetrain to an oval 1x drivetrain⠀
• Upgrade to a new 3 piece crank and bottom bracket to fit the oval chainring⠀
⠀
The brake and 1x drivetrain upgrade also required me to buy a new shifter for my rear derailleur since my old setup had combo brake/shifter levers and I removing the front derailleur since it was no longer needed. I also changed the grips and end caps to match the orange chainring and installed some matching pedals too. I did all the upgrades myself which was so much fun. I even tuned my rear derailleur once I had everything installed. Now I can’t wait for the trails to dry up so I can go ride. Phase 2 coming soon!

I had some amazing flying the last three days in and finished back home in . I’ve been flying aerial photography for a year now and I have literally watched the growth of Austin, , and Houston. We shoot major construction projects like new neighborhood, apartment buildings and roadways. Seeing how much has been completed and how many new projects have started is really amazing. It’s such a fun job and so rewarding. ⠀

So… I’ve been looking to get some to fly with. I didn’t want just normal brown or gray lenses. I wanted a fun color/mirror tint. For a pilot, you need to make sure the lenses are not polarized because the polarization makes it so you can’t see the lcd screens in the cockpit. The obvious choice was to go with sunglasses but I honestly couldn’t afford to cough up that much money. It was really difficult to find another company that made prescription, non-polarized, mirror tint lenses. But then I found . This pair was cheap, stylish and had everything I wanted. I would totally recommend them to any pilots or anyone at all who is looking for prescription sunglasses. ⠀

Got some new ink today a . I’ve wanted to commemorate my solo flight back in 2018 by getting a Cessna 152 and the N-number of the plane I soloed in ever since I soloed. So, today I made that happen. Well, my wife made that happen. She surprised me with an appointment to get it done. Thanks . And to show my love for her I got an additional tattoo that she didn’t know about. It’s two peas in a pod and I tucked it right next to my Browning tattoo. Her maiden name is Podwalny and everyone called her pod growing up. So I thought it was fitting. Who else has an aviation related tattoo?

Wow! What a year it has been. So many changes and so much more learned. I was looking back in my hours over the last year and 1 year ago today I had 384 hours. Today I am sitting at 849. That means I flew 465 hours this last year! That’s crazy. It’s also crazy to think that 205 of those hours came in the last 90 days. I’m loving my new job so much. I get to fly like crazy. ⠀

In 2020 I was able to log my first hour of turbine time in a King Air, I got my high altitude endorsement, I flew from Florida to Texas twice, I took my parents flying for the first time, I took my wife and youngest son up for a flight for the first time, I landed in my narrowest runway to date (37’), and dealt with my first real inflight issue (dead alternator). I became a better pilot this year as well by pushing myself to safely get out of my comfort zone and expand my experiences. I am looking forward to everything that 2022 has in store for me. It’s going to be a great year. ⠀
