Fall break...booked! I'm going to see the NFL in London! 🏈

I thought I knew exactly where I was staying, but after a brief conversation with someone, now I am not so sure.

If you have been, please give me your best hotel recommendation. 😀

Picture hint: Hmm, I wonder who I'm going to see play? ❤

🍂 Planning a fall getaway to Asheville, North Carolina?

One of the biggest questions when planning a trip is where to stay in Asheville, North Carolina. During my visit, I stayed at the Cambria Downtown Asheville, and it was a fantastic home base for exploring the city.

The rooms are spacious, it’s within walking distance of shopping and restaurants, and the Grove Arcade is right across the street. The Hop-On Hop-Off trolley has a nearby stop, and the Biltmore is just a short drive away.

I also loved the easy in-and-out valet parking. After a day of exploring, it was nice to come back to a quiet, comfortable hotel. And the rooftop restaurant is a great spot for breakfast or a late-night snack.

🍁 Asheville is especially beautiful in the fall, so now is a good time to start planning.

I put together my Weekend in Asheville guide with ideas for what to see, where to eat, and how I spent my time in the city.

Think you have to go to New England for beautiful fall foliage? Think again. 🍂

North Carolina is one of my favorite places to plan a fall getaway, especially when you want to catch peak color a little later in the season.

The is stunning, and there are plenty of great stops along the way. Asheville, Blowing Rock, Winston-Salem, and Charlotte each bring something different to the trip.

I’ve taken a North Carolina road trip and finished with a long weekend in Asheville, and it made me want to go back and do even more.

🍁 Planning a fall getaway? Put North Carolina on your list.

I shared my North Carolina road trip experience, including where I stayed and why I loved the location, on the blog:

🎾 Last year, I discovered Family Day at the US Open, and it was such a fun way to experience the Open without spending the day in one seat.

I roamed the grounds, watched exhibition matches in the major arenas, watched players practice, ate my way through the food options, and collected a few sponsor freebies along the way.

And the best part? My Family Day ticket was FREE.

I put together a guide with tips for planning your own US Open experience, so you can make the most of your day in Flushing Meadows.

See it here ➡ https://heworkssoitravel.com/us-open-tips-for-first-timers/

And this year, Family Day falls on my birthday. 🎂🎾

US Open sponsors… just putting it out there: I’m available to celebrate my birthday in New York as your guest. 😉

I'm heading back to school this week, 😥 but I'm already planning my fall vacations.

The first long break of the school year is my favorite time to travel.

The crowds are smaller, the weather is cooler, and it’s the perfect chance to squeeze in a trip before the holidays arrive.

Over the next few weeks, I’m sharing some of my favorite fall break ideas, from charming New England towns to mountain escapes and coastal getaways.

First stop: Boston 🍂

Boston is one of my favorite fall break ideas because you can experience so much without needing a car or a lot of time.

A few days here give you history, beautiful neighborhoods, amazing food, and some of the best fall scenery in the country

3 Things We Did in Tangier, Morocco 🇲🇦

Be honest, what is the first thing you think of when you think of Morocco?

I had no idea what to expect, but I can say that I was pleasantly surprised.

With just one day in port, we booked a private driver and guide who met us right outside the cruise terminal and took us to some of Tangier's most popular attractions.

🐪 Camels on the beach
🌊 Cap Spartel
🪨 Hercules Cave

It was an easy, affordable way to see the highlights without worrying about getting there.

Here's the tour we booked through Get Your Guide 👇

Some of my favorite memories from Europe weren't castles or famous landmarks. They were the quiet moments inside centuries-old churches.

Every one had something different. Towering ceilings. Incredible stained glass. Detailed carvings. A feeling of peace that made us slow down for a few minutes before heading back into the busy streets.

Best of all, many of them are free to visit, making them one of the easiest ways to experience the history and culture of a destination.

Swipe through and tell me which one is your favorite.

This photo gets funnier the more you know.

Expectation: giant German beer stein. 🍺
Reality: one tiny glass.

After a day of sightseeing in Koblenz, it was blazing hot, and all Kevin wanted was a cold beer. When this little glass arrived, we couldn't stop laughing.

He politely called the server over and tried to explain he was hoping for...well...something a little bigger.

A few minutes later, success. 🍻

The next day our tour guide explained that many local beers are served in smaller glasses on purpose so they stay ice cold. They'll keep bringing you refills until you place your coaster on top of the glass.

Lesson learned: don't judge the beer by the size of the glass.

Also...those fries? Easily some of the best we ate in Europe. Crispy, perfectly salted, and worth ordering all over again.

So, what is the food like on an Avalon Waterways river cruise? 🍽️

You’ve followed along on our Rhine River cruise, and I’ve had several questions about the food. Here’s the honest answer: I really enjoyed it.

There were quite a few things on the menu that were unfamiliar to me, but that was part of the fun. I liked having the chance to try new things I might not otherwise try.

Avalon was also very good about making sure you were served something you enjoyed. There were plenty of choices, and the crew was happy to help explain dishes or make adjustments.

And I was especially impressed by how seriously Avalon takes dietary restrictions.

So, yes… you can eat very well on an Avalon river cruise. And you might even discover a new favorite dish along the way.

Scroll through to see some of the menus and meals from our Rhine River cruise. ➡️
