🚨✈️ BIG NEWS FROM SOUTHWEST AIRLINES! If you've ever wanted a COMPANION PASS, you'll want to read this!

I received an email from Southwest today announcing some BIG changes to their Rapid Rewards program beginning January 1, 2027. And there's one change I especially wanted to share!

❤️ First, what's a Companion Pass?

It's one of my favorite Southwest benefits! Once earned, you can bring a designated companion with you on Southwest flights for just the taxes and fees (starting at $5.60 each way). And yes, that works whether you pay for your own flight with money OR Rapid Rewards points!

HERE'S WHAT'S CHANGING!

✅ Right now (2026): You need 135,000 qualifying points to earn a Companion Pass. Bonus points from opening a Southwest credit card CAN count toward that total!

If you earn your Companion Pass in 2026, it's good for the remainder of 2026 AND ALL OF 2027!

❌ Starting in 2027: New credit card welcome bonus points will NO LONGER count toward earning a Companion Pass under the new rules!

Southwest is changing to a new system where you'll need 140,000 Tier Qualifying Points or 100 qualifying one-way flights for unlimited Companion Pass trips. There will also be an option to earn THREE Companion Pass trips at a lower qualifying level.

💳 HERE'S THE OPPORTUNITY BEFORE THE RULES CHANGE!

Southwest has announced that customers approved for a new Rapid Rewards credit card by December 2, 2026, can still have eligible welcome bonus points count toward Companion Pass qualification — even if they complete the required spending in early 2027!

Through my personal referral link, you can currently earn:

✈️ 50,000 BONUS POINTS with the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus credit card after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

That's a BIG head start toward the 135,000 points needed under the current rules! Of course, you'll still need to earn the remaining qualifying points.
