Not just any kids though, underprivileged kids from an area of San Antonio, TX that is 98% below poverty level. In John's eyes, "it's not the kids fault". So he set out to help. John is retired military and comes ingrained with a very strong work ethic. Lucky for these kids! John started out helping direct traffic in the parking lot at the San Antonio Missions Baseball games. Each paycheck he rece
ived he kept in a separate account just for the kids. He spends every penny he makes from directing traffic on "his kids". John has worked relentlessly for several years to raise donations for supplies and food for the children of Jerry Allen Elementary School in the Northside School District in San Antonio. John's two daughters, Tracey and Theresa, both attended this elementary school. John feels the need to help these kids. He knows he can't make a difference in every child's life, but if he focuses his efforts on one school, he has shown that he sure can make a difference in many! Each year John collects school supplies over the summer and delivers them by the truck full to the school. He was blessed enough with an abundance in 2013 that he was able to share the collection with another near-by school of the same socioeconomic means. For Christmas break each year John collects peanut butter. Peanut butter is something that the children can feed themselves, does not require the danger of cooking and is sustainable for several weeks. Some of the children have expressed a fear of going home for the holidays because they are not sure where they will be getting food from during the break. During school time, they are on subsidized food programs through the district...when school is closed, so is the food supply, unfortunately. In 2013 John blessed 100 of the families of Jerry Allen Elementary will full Christmas dinners including ham, rice, green beans, pinto beans, and corn. Bright things are on the horizon for John's kids and we look forward to growing and blessing more families with the generosity of those who surround us!
