Here's a little more about Jake, "in his own words"...
Jake smith (Jcstixx) is a deep rooted Texas drummer. He comes from a long line of musicians on both sides of his family.
“My uncles from my mom’s side of the family had a band called Four More in the late 60’s & early 70’s and my father ran a dancehall band most of my life. From an early age I was eager to hit the stage.”
I started playing drums at the age of three. I spent lots of days in the garage growing up playing to old Merle Haggard & Ronnie Milsap tunes & honing my craft around a deep love for traditional country music. As I got older and got into college I started to broaden my musical taste. I learned to play Blues, Jazz and Rock N Roll.
My biggest influences today come from drummers from all different genre’s like Carter Beauford, Stanley Randolph, Joey Jordison, and my all time favorite Steve Jordan. All of which heavily sway my live music sound. It is how I approach playing the drums today.
I’ve played gigs all around Texas playing cover shows and touring with different artist since I was 16 years old. I am currently touring with Texas artist Sterling Elza. I would have never thought that playing shows with a Texas Rock Band would be in my music career storyline. However, I absolutely love it! I love all my boyz I get to share the stage and neon lights with while on tour. I am very honored to carry my family tradition of playing Texas Rock N Roll, just as my Great Uncle’s did back in the good ol’ days.
7drums was prominently used everywhere by drummers I admired in the scene at festivals and dancehalls. Now to be apart of the 7drums seems absolutely surreal. Blessed is an understatement…I’m excited to be apart of such a great Texas brand!
