Toyota started with a loom.
Not a car. A loom. π΄
In 1929 Sakichi Toyoda owned the
most valuable patent in Japan. An
automatic loom that revolutionized
the textile industry. He had built
an empire from thread and fabric.
Then his son Kiichiro walked in
and said he wanted to build cars.
Sakichi sold his most valuable
invention. Handed every yen to
his son. And said build the car.
Kiichiro walked into a loom factory
and started building Toyota's first
car with loom workers who had
never touched an engine in their
lives.
In 1957 Toyota sent their first car
to America. The Toyopet Crown.
It overheated on the highway.
The buyer returned it the next day.
Toyota pulled out of America.
Spent 5 years rebuilding everything
from scratch. Came back in 1964.
And never left again.
Today Toyota produces one vehicle
every 3 seconds. 10.48 million a
year. The largest car manufacturer
on earth.
From one sold loom patent in 1929.
One father. One patent.
One bet on his son.
That is where every Toyota
on earth came from.
