ZODIAC INITIAL INSPECTION PART TWO…

Some of the non-skid pads are just slightly detached. When I gave a slight pull, I quickly arrived at the point where they’re still firmly attached.

There’s only one pad that’ll need to be removed entirely so it can be cleaned, prepped, and reglued.

ZODIAC INITIAL INSPECTION PART ONE…

Susan and Dan (with Deb, and canine child, Max in tow) arrived at the shop as I was lisping my way through this.

Apologies for my inability to enunciate well! Will post a second video of the non-skid pads.

All of these issues are minor. This Hypalon Zodiac’s fabric is still in good condition; we need to make certain to start, and continue, UV treatments.

Only one leak has been noted, but it’s a fast one.

Tomorrow, we’ll perform a spot cleaning on the rubrail to determine whether we can achieve an outstanding transformation with it.

INITIAL INSPECTION FOR ORANGE COUNTY FIRE RESCUE…

I cut Steve loose on the inspection and video today; he nailed it!

The chief complaint was water intrusion, but you’ll see we have a few additional issues to address.

WILLIAMS FINAL REVIEW…

Apologies for garbled speech; the healing process is a slow one. Figured I’d use the mask so as to spare you from having to look at the facial bruising (frightening visage).

Oftentimes, our customers give me carte blanche. They tell me to do what I feel is best based upon my experience, and the issues I’m being presented with.

In this instance, the challenge was to find balance between proper procedures/a sensical plan of attack, and what was being requested of me.

The final result shows a healthy compromise. We’ve properly repaired all issues, achieved symmetry, and managed to get a nifty-looking aesthetic while simultaneously providing extra layers of protection for the fabric.

All that, AND we came in under the deadline? Damn; victory sure is sweet!

STEVE’S STILL WORKING ON HIS VIDEO FLOW…

I’ll step in to translate here. This is the final review video; the final inspection has already been performed, and the vessel passed our last tests.

Almost all of our patches were placed for worn, delaminated, and/or detached fabric. We only had one actual leak (starboard). We want our work to look nice, in addition to being effective. To that end, we removed both oar locks, and placed a hefty reinforcing patch under each; helped with symmetry. We tacked down at least 7 areas of detached rubrail.

Andy custom cut a gorgeous transom patch. It’s tackling detachment, delam, and is adding reinforcement all at the same time!

The tubes and rubrail were so chalky, I had given the boat 2 mold and mildew treatments prior to prepping for the paint job; made a big difference! The treatments also allowed us to avoid painting the inner fl**ge (those pieces never like to grab the paint very well).

Although communication has been a s**t show since I left for surgery, the jobs have been performed correctly, and the final results are looking mighty fine. We appreciate your patience as we sail through the last few days of my “forced silence”.

Even if I am still unable to chatter away when I get home, I assure you I’ll be toting a large ruler (for rapping the knuckles of those who push the limits of MY patience and understanding), an air horn (to encourage sharp focus at the drop of a hat), and a pointer wand thingy (with which to remind the boys of what needs to be prepped and glued). All good!

CALLING ON OUR COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORT…

Zoey’s surgery went mostly well, but there have been some complications that will delay her recovery and her return to the shop.

For years, Zoey has gone the extra nautical mile to ease your worries, solve your problems, and get you back on the water. Now it’s our turn to show up for her. ⚓

If you need dinghy repair, please schedule your appointment as soon as possible.

Looking for a “new to you” dinghy? We currently have several available for sale.

Happy with repairs we’ve done for you in the past? Please send fellow cruisers our way, share our posts, and help spread the word.

Zoey is facing additional medical expenses, medications, and recovery supplies, and she is currently unable to speak.

If she’s going to be speechless, let it be because she’s overwhelmed by the wave of support that keeps this shop strong while she heals.

Please step up. Show her the same kindness, care, and loyalty she has shown this community for decades.

With gratitude,

Karen Messina (admin)
