Capitol Reef 2015- continuing through Utah!
So we have been through Zion, Bryce, now, Let's talk about Capitol Reef. That is the next place we hit on out 2015 trip that included that Utah "Big 5".
We came from Bryce on Rt 12, which is an absolutely amazing ride. Once at Torrey, we picked up Rt 24, following it through Capitol Reef. The park protects a "Waterpocket fold" which is a wrinkle in the crust of the earth. Fruita is a historic area, with petroglyphs, an orchard and a few historic buildings.
Route 24 is scenic in itself, however there is a paved scenic drive that gets you a little more remote and deeper into the wilds. The scenic drive in the pics is the one lane road. Also, from what I recall, there is no gas in the park.

We are planning a motorcycle trip to Alaska from Pennsylvania in the next year or so.
We do a lot of long distance traveling, and sometimes find ourselves in some more remote locations but haven’t traveled for a longer period of time anywhere more remote.
What planning, packing and travel advice can you guys share from your experience?

2015 Utah, Rt. 12 from Bryce to Capitol Reef
The landscape along this route varies quite a bit, sometimes by the mile. Hoodoos, rock formations, mesas, vast vistas, and some grassy land, and the "Hog Back" a ribbon of road that tracks along a ridge with steep drop-offs on both sides. This section connects the towns of Escalante and Bolder. There are no pics from the narrow area of the Hog Back, she made a video. Traveling this route will take you to tomorrow's destination, Capitol Reef!!

2015 Bryce Canyon
The day after Zion, we traveled to Bryce Canyon on RT 89 (which is amazing in it's own right). Bryce canyon is the land of Hoodoos and spectacular red rock formations. It a vast and incredible landscape. If you have time, take a hike. We did the Queen's garden trail, on another trip. The ride from Zion to Bryce is about 2.5 hours, now that is the straight through ride, plan on some extra time, because you are 100% going to make stops along the way to explore the landscape. Bryce is going to take you some time to really explore it, so if you have the time, take it!!
Also, just an FYI Bryce is also an International Dark Sky Park. So the park after dark will offer an astounding view of the night sky.

Also, if you missed it, we posted about Zion Yesterday! Check it out, Utah is the theme this week!

In Continuing with the Utah theme..Another from our 2015 big trip.
Zion National Park, one of the Utah "Big Five" and the first we hit out of this trip. We had crossed death valley the day before, and had planned to stop in Las Vegas, but being too hot and feeling almost dead, we opted to skip it because we had been there before and ride to St. George. We found a Best Western with a pool and I couldn't get it is fast enough.
The next day we headed to Zion. What an amazing place, and it was overwhelming! One of those too big to take in kinda places. We did a short hike, and also walked into The Narrows to the point that you would start wading in the river. The road to, through, and out of Zion is great and the scenery nothing short of spectacular. I thought we had a picture of the tunnel, but it must be in another folder somewhere.
We hope that you enjoy these pics, and that it inspires you to "Get out there"!!

2015 Dead horse Point State Park Utah
The area is accessed by Utah 313 and is near Moab. It offers a look at a sharp bend in the Colorado River. The area was featured in the movie Thelma and Louise.
The area gets it's name from the traditional legend that the cowboys drove horses to the neck of the mesa, selected the best horses and left the rest to die.
