This is what October is supposed to look like.

Golden fields, a ridgeline in full color, wood smoke drifting between the cabins. Wildflower Farms, Auberge's retreat in New York's Hudson Valley, delivers all of it about 90 minutes from the city.

Which cruise line do I recommend to people who plan entire trips around meals? Easy answer.

Oceania built its identity on food. On its newest ships, there is one chef for every ten guests, specialty restaurants come at no extra charge, and a hands-on Culinary Center lets you cook your way across the itinerary with classes at sea. The newest ship, Allura, joined the fleet last summer, complete with a made-to-order crêperie and a glass-walled library I'd happily move into.

The trips I'd start planning now? Almost all of them are at least a year away. Here's what's on the drawing board.

Japan for cherry blossom season. A villa summer in Europe. Patagonia at peak trekking season. Marbella or Tangier for front-row seats to the next total solar eclipse. Tuscany for the milestone birthday, and Bora Bora for the anniversary.

The common thread is lead time. These are the trips I lock in 12 to 18 months ahead, because the best guides, rooms, and dates genuinely run out. Eclipse week most of all.

Here's a fun seasonal flip. While I rake leaves, New Zealand is heading into spring, and its lodge season is just beginning.

Blanket Bay tops my list every time. The lodge looks across Lake Wakatipu to the Humboldt Mountains, scenery so cinematic the valleys nearby stood in for Middle-earth on screen, and Queenstown's restaurants and w**eries are only 45 minutes away.

The itinerary here runs on helicopters and rivers. Heli-fishing on water no road reaches, flyovers of Milford Sound, w**e tasting in Central Otago, or nothing at all in the great stone-and-timber lodge room with a fire going.

New Zealand takes long lead times, and planning now means the trip of a lifetime next year. Reach out!

My favorite kind of recommendation? A resort so new your friends can't say they've been.

Ahãma just debuted on Günlüklü Bay, a protected cove on Türkiye's Turquoise Coast between the yacht town of Göcek and Fethiye, and it already carries the Relais & Châteaux badge. The resort is built into fifty acres of rare liquidambar forest, with timber cabanas hidden under the trees and a glass-walled centerpiece, the Glass House, opening straight to the sea.

Wellness here goes well past a spa menu. Sound baths in a purpose-built Sound Temple, watsu sessions in the water, guided forest bathing on the trails. Four restaurants cover everything from Aegean mezze to Latin flavors, and yachts pull right up to the bay for lunch.

The Turquoise Coast is climbing client wish lists fast, and this is the one to book before everyone else does. Message me to start planning.

Egypt has been on bucket lists for about 4,000 years, and it has never been a better trip than right now.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is finally open in full, with Tutankhamun's complete collection displayed together for the first time in history. Pair it with sunrise at the pyramids before the crowds arrive, a few nights sailing the Nile on a private dahabiya, and the Valley of the Kings with an expert Egyptologist bringing every painted wall to life.
