🌡️🍂 Our cooler nighttime temps are here, and it’s affecting your lawn! As air, and especially soil temperatures drop, grass growth slows down significantly. Combined with the recent lack of rain, many lawns aren’t growing much at all right now. This is normal for the season, so if your grass seems to be taking a break, it’s just nature’s way of preparing for the cooler months ahead. 🍁🌱 It's a great time to take care of those lingering lawn mower issues, or begin thinking about the winterization process for your lawnmower.

Mowing your lawn in late June differs from mowing in the spring due to changes in grass growth rates, moisture levels, and overall lawn health. Here are some tips for mowing your lawn during late June:

Mow at the Right Height: Set your mower blade higher (about 3-4 inches) to help the grass retain moisture and withstand heat stress. Taller grass provides shade to the soil, reducing evaporation and helping to keep roots cooler.

Avoid Mowing During Peak Heat: Mow in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. This reduces stress on the grass and prevents moisture loss.

Watering: Water your lawn deeply but infrequently. This encourages deep root growth, making the grass more drought-resistant. Early morning is the best time to water to reduce evaporation.

Avoid Cutting Too Much at Once: Follow the one-third rule, which means never cutting more than one-third of the grass height in a single mowing session. This helps prevent stress and keeps the lawn healthy.

By adapting your mowing practices to the changing conditions in late June, you can maintain a healthy and attractive lawn throughout the summer.

Did you know that the first lawn mowers, invented in the 1830s, used iron wheels instead of rubber tires? 🌱 It wasn't until the early 20th century that pneumatic (air-filled) tires were introduced, making mowers more efficient and easier to maneuver. These advancements have paved the way for the versatile and durable mower tires we use today! 🚜🌿

Many repair shops have long wait times on repairs (up to 4 weeks during busy season), are overpriced ($120 an hour or more for labor), and require you to bring your mower to their location. If you need to transport your mower to their location then they typically charge up to $60 or more each way, if they have a transport option at all.

Most repair shops also sell expensive brand new mowers, meaning they have an incentive to sell you a new mower rather than do an affordable repair.
