Hoses below the waterline are one of those things that can easily be overlooked until they become a much bigger problem. Regular inspections matter, especially when a failure could mean water entering the boat.

Preventative maintenance is so important.

Example for clearing water passages for freezing temps. Boating for 25 years in New jersey and winterizing boats and engines. Blow them out and if you have a thermostat remove it or do it while engine is warm so thermostat is open.

Run air or antifreeze thru system and spray with fogging oil in intake until it stalls.

Then you remove spark plugs and spray fogging oil into cylinders to stop rings from sticking due to moisture when temps go up and down

If in the north for long periods change lower unit oil cause if u do have water that got in you will crack your lower unit if it freezes cause water expands and there is no room.
