Kendrick Castillo charged the shooter. Two classmates followed him in. The gun fired four times and then jammed. Castillo was the only student killed. Eight others were injured. The rest of the class survived and walked out of that classroom because three teenagers ran toward the gun instead of away from it, and one of them took the shots that would otherwise have kept coming.

His parents laid to rest their only son. Meanwhile, other parents were able to embrace their children once again.
