Parental kidnapping (or custodial child abduction) is a situation where one of the parents illegally takes a child (children) to a different country, which is usually the country of birth of that parent. This action violates the established custody laws that exist in most countries in the world. In order to combat such abductions, the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction has be ratified and entered into force on 01 December 1983.
