You will see a lot of people offering to drive your students on various University Of Alabama groups/pages . The city of Tuscaloosa has very strict guidelines for drivers that do this for profit. If someone is offering to drive your student, you should make sure that they have met every qualification required by the city of Tuscaloosa. These strict policies are in place to protect your student in the vehicle with a driver. Every driver is required to have * a taxi license (issued by Officer Davidson with the Tuscaloosa Police Department), * taxi tag on the back of their vehicle, * a sticker on the back window (issued by Officer Davidson), *business license, *annual background check, *annual driving history check, * MOST important is they must have commercial insurance with the city of Tuscaloosa listed on the policy.
This is the law, not just a suggestion. If you pay someone to drive your child and they are not legal with the city and have an accident with your student in the vehicle, their insurance will not pay. You can be left with thousands of dollars worth of medical bills. It’s not worth it….EVER. Plus it’s illegal.
Even if someone is an Uber/Lyft driver, that does not make them exempt from these mandates from the city of Tuscaloosa.
I am not trying to step on anyone’s toes or offend anybody. I just want to make sure that parents are well informed for the safety of their student.
