📍 Workplace Exposure Research Program testing in Springfield, MO, is a wrap!

A huge thank you to SMART Local 36 Business Manager Ray Reasons and his team for their support in making the event a success. This was the third visit for our mobile X-ray unit to assist Local 36 members this month.

Over 210 members across the three SMART Local 36 locations were excited, engaged and energized throughout the process.

Our Workplace Exposure Research Program helps promote health awareness, as well as early detection of diseases related to asbestos and silica exposure to the members through testing, guidance, and follow-up support.

Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting members at Sheet Metal Workers Local 83 in Albany, NY and Local 36 in Fulton and St. Louis, MO — spending time on the ground, learning from the members we serve, and strengthening the connections that make this community strong.

This Memorial Day, SMOHIT honors the servicemen and women who gave their lives in defense of our nation and our way of life.

SMOHIT exists because we believe every worker — and every family — deserves to be taken care of. Today, we extend that belief to the fallen heroes of our armed forces and the families who carry the weight of their sacrifice. You are not forgotten. You are deeply, permanently honored.

Today is Workers' Memorial Day. We pause to honor the Sheet Metal Worker Brothers and Sisters who never made it home from the jobsite. Their sacrifices are not forgotten — they are the reason we fight every single day for safer working conditions.

At SMOHIT, our mission is rooted in their memory. This means investing in safety training, hazard prevention, and — just as importantly — mental health support for the workers who carry the weight of this industry on their shoulders.

A safe worker is a whole worker. Physical safety matters. Mental health matters. Every life lost on the job is one too many.

Today we remember. Every day we train, educate and protect.

If you’ve been a Sheet Metal Air Rail and Transportation Workers building trades or sign installation and fabrication member for more than 10 years, you are eligible to participate in the Workplace Exposure Research Program. Mobile X-ray units are traveling to local unions, and once it’s your local’s turn to participate, you can begin the process and schedule your chest X-ray appointment online. If your local isn’t yet listed on the website, please check back.

The Workplace Exposure Research Program helps protect workers and their families from diseases related to asbestos and silica exposure by providing testing, guidance, and follow‑up support.
