We are proud to announce that AS&CV #250 is officially in service! The locomotive is painted in a patriotic scheme in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Several American flags are featured all around the locomotive and the classic “250” insignia is proudly displayed on both ends.
250 came to us from the Blue River Railroad, formerly their #16, and underwent a full restoration in our Utica shops. It is a GE 44-Tonner, built originally in 1940 for industrial switching service. Blue River used it up to 1965 as their primary yard switcher until higher horsepower locomotives were needed in order to handle the increase in traffic. It would then sit sidelined until we agreed to purchase it in 2024.
Today, we honored America by operating a business train powered by #250. Three of our beautifully painted passenger cars joined the locomotive for the trim, which terminated at Utica Union Station. A photo shoot was held in Utica, with the locomotive parked on CSX Track 1 and some of our other equipment in the background to complement the scene.
We would like to thank CSX and the Blue River Railroad for making this historic day possible.
For anyone who desires to come see the locomotive, it will be operating in regular passenger service on our Utica to Holland Patent trains throughout the rest of the summer. Following this summer, it can be seen handling yard duties in our Utica passenger terminal, adjacent to the Track 1 platform. Please remember, Safety First, ALWAYS stay 25 feet back, and do not trespass on Railroad property.
