Madtown Yarn Shop Hop is next weekend 10/10-12 and it’s been Melissa’s tradition for years to dye up a bunch of colorways especially for the annual West Knits MKAL and then cast on herself during the Hop! Right now she’s doing the fun part and pulling together color inspiration — swipe to see some palette ideas for this year’s Mystery MusiKAL (and to see her shawls from previous years which are absolutely stunning). Did you see that Four Crows Fibers got a shout out in a recent newsletter from Sugar River Yarns? We are one of three local dye studios that Stephanie commissioned to create custom colorways for her brand new shop in Mount Horeb, right across Main Street from where Melissa hand-dyes all her yarn.

If you’re not already, make sure you follow and stop in to check out these three beautiful custom colorways among the rest of their beautifully curated yarns! Proud to be in such good company there with and .

The Sugar River Dragonfly colorway was inspired by the ephemeral beauty of those glistening wings you’ll see skimming over the water when you walk or paddle along the Sugar River. As we always say — Inspiration Comes from Many Places, but nothing inspires us quite like the natural beauty of our surroundings.

In times when it feels like so much is out of our control, taking care of the land and the people immediately around us can be a good place to start.

Stephanie called out the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association, a “grassroots non-profit conservation organization that serves all of those who live, work or play in the watershed,” for the good work they’re doing both in conservation and education when it comes to efforts to preserve this priceless natural resource. Well, it’s a rainy morning here in Mount Horeb but don’t let that keep you from making your way downtown for the Art Fair! Let’s wait out the rain together in the brand new and completely gorgeous Makers Market Square! On the corner of 1st and Main, wander in to see a curated selection of Four Crows Fiber yarn along with dozens of local artists’ creations for sale, and enjoy a cup of coffee from MoHo Jo’s! We couldn’t be happier to be a part of this innovative and community-centric endeavor — swipe to see just a few of the many stalls that caught our eye, we’ll be sharing more as time goes on!

A whole order of classic Four Crows Fibers colorways, freshly dyed onto the funky new base Neo, are shipping out east this week. We are kind of obsessed with this modern neon-nep twist on traditional tweed and we think you will be too. (Just wait til we get our black light out…that post is forthcoming!)

What’s Melissa been up to this week? The customers of will get to see very soon! (Everyone else just gets this sneaky sneak peek, colors distorted so we don’t spoil the big reveal!) She’s putting the finishing touches on a very special custom order of assigned pooling yarn to celebrate the four seasons at the oldest yarn store in Wisconsin, located in a historic mill! Worth a trip out there to the east coast of our great state, eh?
