Rhapsody of the Seas Cruise Day 4: St. Maarten & The Flying Dutchman
Day 4 brought us to St. Maarten, and today’s adventure was not for the faint of heart.
We took on The Flying Dutchman zipline, and let me tell you what a ride!
This is easily the biggest zipline I have ever done, and when you are sitting there waiting for them to hit that button, your body knows something wild is about to happen. Then the drop comes.
Your heart panics.
Your stomach jumps into your throat.
Your brain has about half a second to ask, “What exactly have we done?”
But then something clicks.
Years of training to rapidly assess situations kicked in, and once my brain caught up with my body, I was able to settle in and actually enjoy the experience. And wow… what an experience it was.
You are flying high above St. Maarten, looking down as the people at the bottom look like tiny specks of sand. The view is incredible, the speed is unreal, and for those couple of minutes, you are somewhere between panic, adrenaline, and pure joy.
Then you start to see the landing crew below. They are waving, smiling, and waiting as you hit the deceleration blocks and quickly slow into a surprisingly soft landing.
And then comes my favorite part.
You turn around, look back up at where you just came from, and all you can do is stand there amazed.
That moment right there is exactly why I say it:
