Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas on a 4- night itinerary from Bayonne New Jersey to Halifax Nova Scotia: Excellent choice for a short multi-gen getaway from mid-Atlantic area!

The Independence had a little something for everyone, great dining and entertainment and plenty of space to spread out during its two at sea days! Our Dining staff was superb and made our mealtimes truly enjoyable!

We brought my in-laws and enjoyed our days playing games, watching unique shows, dining in the Windjammer and the main dining rooms, and strolling the promenade. I think my favorite was the acapella group Mo5aic - absolutely unreal beat boxing!

Our one port stop was Halifax Nova Scotia where we got a shot of the Canadian coast in its foggy surreal glory. We went to picturesque Peggy’s Cove where we saw the lighthouse, explored and shopped.

On this sailing it was especially helpful to have the Key which gave us extra amenities like priority embarkation/disembarkation, Voom WiFi, welcome lunch and goodbye breakfast and reserved seating for the shows. This was a great add on for our seniors!

I apologize in advance for the photo overkill!

A ferry ride to Cape Cod for the day netted so many incredible views and pictures I just had to capture them here!

It was an 80 minute ferry from Nantucket to Cape Cod - beautiful and quite relaxing!

We arrived in Harwich port on Cape Cod in plenty of time to drive to Chatham and tour Chatham Bars Inn, one of my top northeastern coast resorts. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the Beach House Grill with the freshest oysters and the catch of the day and then soaked up the sunshine at the beach and pool area. This is such a lovely and unique destination! (A split stay between Nantucket and Cape Cod would be the best of both worlds!)

We toured some more, ate some more, talked some more and laughed some more and too soon it was time to hop the ferry back to Nantucket. The heavens must have known I was sad to be leaving my baby because the setting sun was just spectacular as we arrived back in port.

We say goodbye to Nantucket tomorrow -too soon in my opinion!

Beach day on Nantucket!

Today we spent the day at Jetties beach - just a 5 minute bike ride from our hotel.
So convenient to bring or rent beach equipment and the water was fabulous! Warm and calm, and shallow waaaaaay out due to numerous sandbars.
It was great having the Sandbar Bar and Restaurant right there too. They had live music, a fun bar atmosphere and we enjoyed fresh fish tacos and sandwiches with zero hassle!
Of course Nantucket has dozens of beach locations and we wish we had time to visit them all but I guess that’s just a reason to come back for another visit!

“Not all vacations need to be a 8 hour flight” theme!
I love a mix of near and far, and just a little over an hour flight from Washington Reagan you can find yourself a world away in Nantucket. This is a first time visit for me and I’m charmed by the beautiful gardens around every corner, the quaint hotels (like ours!) that blend into environment, the hospitality and the plethora of shopping and dining.
I was afraid the water was going to be cold but was pleasantly surprised at the warm and inviting water! Our hotel offered complimentary bikes and we’ve covered quite a distance already - much more convenient than a car here as parking is limited and its relatively flat terrain. Just be prepared for the cobblestones!
Looking forward to exploring more tomorrow when my daughter and her husband arrive to join us!
