28th–29th Mount Elgon
We didn’t just go to the mountain…
we stepped into its story.
Day one began gently, a walk that slowly pulled us away from the noise of everyday life and deeper into the wild. The trail led us to the hidden beauty of Elkony Waterfall, where time seemed to pause between the falling water and the silence of the forest.
But Mt. Elgon had more to reveal.
We found ourselves standing at the mouth of ancient caves, dark, quiet, and alive in their own way. Inside, the walls whispered stories carved over centuries… not by humans, but by elephants.
Here, deep within the mountain, elephants come to mine salt from the rock, a rare and almost surreal behavior found in very few places on Earth.
You don’t just see this.
You feel it.
As the day stretched on, we made our way to Endroad camp, earning every step with a short 5km acclimatization hike, lungs opening, legs adjusting, minds slowing down. That night, the mountain wrapped around us in stillness.
Then came Day Two.
4:00 AM — a quiet wake-up.
No alarms needed, just purpose.
By 5:00 AM, we were on the move… headlamps cutting through the darkness, footsteps steady, breath visible in the cold. And then — slowly — the mountain began to glow.
The sunrise didn’t just appear.
It unfolded.
Golden light spilling over the vast ancient caldera of Mount Elgon, one of the oldest volcanic landscapes in East Africa, standing here long before any of us ever imagined the journey.
At that moment, nothing else mattered.
Not the distance. Not the climb.
Just the silence… the light… and the realization that some places don’t just give you views, they give you perspective.
This wasn’t just a hike.
It was a reminder.
That adventure is not about reaching the summit…
It’s about everything the mountain shows you along the way.
Next summit hike 31st May 1st June. 2days 1 camping night.
