Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending an incredible travel advisor event hosted by Air Canada Vacations, Sandals Resorts, Dreams Resorts, and the Jamaica Tourist Board. 🌴☀️🇯🇲
It was an information-filled event with so many valuable updates about Jamaica tourism and what travelers can expect heading into the upcoming seasons.
One of the biggest takeaways: Jamaica is OPEN, operational, and thriving again after the hurricane. In fact, many properties didn’t just repair damage — they rebuilt BETTER. Several resorts used the opportunity to completely renovate and upgrade their properties, and the results sound absolutely amazing.
I was especially impressed hearing about how Sandals Resorts handled temporary resort closures. Any staff members affected were offered positions at other Sandals properties throughout Jamaica, and if placements weren’t available, employees continued receiving their regular paychecks every two weeks until reopening. Their jobs were held for them throughout the process. That says so much about the type of company and resort chain Sandals truly is. ❤️
Another important point that was stressed multiple times by the Jamaica Tourist Board: Jamaica is BUSY! Tourism is booming, and arrivals are higher than ever. Because of this, customs and immigration lines at the airport can be much longer than travelers may remember.
For anyone traveling to Jamaica, I strongly recommend considering Club MoBay. ✈️
Club MoBay offers expedited service through customs, immigration, and luggage handling — helping you avoid the lengthy airport lines and start your vacation stress-free.
We also learned that the majority of excursions are back up and running just like before, and it’s important to note that the hurricane’s path primarily affected the Spanish Town to Montego Bay corridor, while areas like Ocho Rios and Negril experienced very minimal damage.
The overall message was clear:
Jamaica is back — and better than ever. 🇯🇲
The island continues to offer:
🌴 Beautiful beaches
🎶 Incredible music and culture
😊 Warm, welcoming people
🍹 Fabulous accommodations
☀️ The complete Caribbean getaway experience
Two topics that the Jamaica Tourist Board addressed directly were cost and safety — both concerns travelers sometimes raise.
On cost: Jamaica offers a truly unique experience that many travelers feel is worth that little extra. The culture, atmosphere, hospitality, food, entertainment, and resort experiences are unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean.
On safety: The Tourist Board acknowledged Jamaica’s challenges decades ago during times of political instability in the 70s and 80s, but emphasized how much the country has evolved through economic growth, tourism investment, infrastructure improvements, and increased security. Jamaica today is a vibrant, welcoming, and safe destination enjoyed by millions of visitors each year.
One final request from the Jamaica Tourist Board that really touched me:
If you are traveling to Jamaica and have extra room in your suitcase, consider bringing school supplies or basic everyday items for local families and schools still recovering from storm damage. Some schools and homes are still operating with partial roofs or missing walls, and community donations are deeply appreciated. ❤️
Have you been to Jamaica before?
Or maybe it’s time to experience the island for the first time? 🌴✈️
