An oracle prophesied that a Lebanese princess, named Sicilia, would be devoured by a sea monster unless she left her homeland. On her 15th birthday she was Sent away on a boat, she was eventually carried to a beautiful, deserted island. There, she met a young man who was the sole survivor of a plague and, recognizing their shared fate, they fell in love and repopulated the island, which was then named Sicily in her honor.
