Along Link Road in Gugulethu, construction teams have been hard at work installing underground pipelines, a key step in delivering improved transport infrastructure for the community.

The City of Cape Town will undertake night-time construction on AZ Berman Drive, between Nduli Street and Wespoort Drive, from 𝟭𝟰 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟰 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

The public are advised of planned temporary lane closures as part of ongoing transport infrastructure improvements in Lansdowne.

📍 Affected roads:
- Turfhall Road (between Castor/Benona Road and the railway bridge)
- Racecourse Road (between the railway bridge and the M5)

📅 When: 24 August 2026 to 28 February 2027

⚠️ Traffic impact: A single lane will remain open in each direction, with dedicated right-turn lanes maintained at intersections. Please plan your journey accordingly and expect possible delays in the area.

🚍 Progress Update
🚧 Large precast concrete beams, measuring up to 40 m long and weighing around 40 tonnes, were transported to and installed at the MyCiTi construction site along Govan Mbeki Road. This complex operation was carefully planned and executed using specialised transport vehicles, heavy-duty cranes, and strict safety measures to ensure the safe and efficient delivery and installation of the beams.

🚧 Claremont Roadworks Update 🚧
The public are advised of revised planned timelines for the following temporary road closures:

• Intersection of 1st Avenue and Imam Haron Road – October-December 2026

• Intersection of 2nd Avenue and Imam Haron Road – ongoing until end September

• Markham Road, between Chichester and Imam Haron Roads – ongoing until end September

🚧 Temporary lane closures are also planned on Chichester Road, between the M5 and Belvedere Road intersection from 24 August until 31 August 2026. A single lane will operate in both directions, along with dedicated turning lanes

🚗 Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all detour and on-site signage.

Temporary intersection closure at Duinefontein Road and Govan Mbeki Road between 31 July and 5 August 2026

✅ The intersection will be closed in 10-minute intervals while cranes lift and position the beams safely.
✅ Southbound traffic on Duinefontein Road towards Philippi will not be permitted during installation operations.
✅ Traffic officials and signage will direct motorists along alternative routes.
✅ Access to homes and businesses will remain open.
Please plan your journey accordingly and expect temporary delays.
