🇺🇸🇬🇧 Oh God … 😳

Nobody knows what a Zetros is. They simply don’t exist here – at least not anywhere in the Southern African region. And the workshop? Packed to the rafters.

So, naturally, the only option is to work on it right there in the parking lot. 🔧

After almost a day and a half, the gearbox is finally out … and that’s when the full extent of the disaster becomes clear:

The clutch slave cylinder has blown, the clutch is completely burnt out, and quite a few other things have decided to give up as well. 😱

And, of course, there isn’t a single spare part anywhere in Africa that fits our Zetros.

So … parts have to be ordered from Germany, which means at least 14 days of waiting. 🙈

Well … time to do some laundry and come up with a new plan. 😂

Because one thing is certain now: we’re not getting out of the country on time.

But give up? Not a chance.

After all, we’re travelling with THE BEAST – A ZETROS 6x6. 💪🔥

Let’s see what adventure comes our way next … 😎🌍🚛

🇮🇹 Oh Dio … 😳

Nessuno sa cosa sia uno Zetros. Qui semplicemente non esistono – almeno non in tutta la regione dell’Africa australe. E l’officina? Piena fino all’orlo.

Quindi, naturalmente, l’unica soluzione è mettersi a lavorare direttamente nel parcheggio. 🔧

Dopo quasi un giorno e mezzo, finalmente il cambio è fuori … ed è allora che si scopre la vera entità del disastro:

Il cilindro attuatore della frizione è esploso, la frizione è completamente bruciata e anche parecchie altre cose hanno deciso di arrendersi. 😱

E, naturalmente, non c’è un solo ricambio compatibile in tutta l’Africa per il nostro Zetros.

Quindi … bisogna ordinare i pezzi dalla Germania, il che significa aspettare almeno 14 giorni. 🙈

Beh … è arrivato il momento di fare il bucato e inventarsi un nuovo piano. 😂

Perché ormai una cosa è certa: non riusciremo a lasciare il Paese in tempo.

Ma arrendersi? Neanche per sogno.

Dopotutto, viaggiamo con THE BEAST – A ZETROS 6x6. 💪🔥

Vediamo quale sarà la prossima avventura … 😎🌍🚛

🇧🇷 Meu Deus … 😳

Ninguém sabe o que é um Zetros. Simplesmente não existem por aqui – pelo menos em toda a região da África Austral. E a oficina? Lotada até o teto.

Então, naturalmente, a única opção é começar a trabalhar nele ali mesmo no estacionamento. 🔧

Depois de quase um dia e meio, finalmente conseguimos tirar o câmbio … e é aí que descobrimos a verdadeira dimensão do desastre:

O cilindro escravo da embreagem estourou, a embreagem está completamente queimada e várias outras coisas também resolveram desistir. 😱

E, claro, não existe uma única peça de reposição compatível em toda a África para o nosso Zetros.

Ou seja … precisamos encomendar as peças da Alemanha, o que significa esperar pelo menos 14 dias. 🙈

Bom … está na hora de lavar roupa e bolar um novo plano. 😂

Porque agora uma coisa é certa: não vamos conseguir sair do país a tempo.

Mas desistir? Nem pensar.

Afinal, estamos viajando com THE BEAST – A ZETROS 6x6. 💪🔥

Vamos ver qual será a próxima aventura … 😎🌍🚛

🇩🇪 Oh Gott … 😳

Keiner kennt einen Zetros. Den gibt es hier nämlich nicht – zumindest nicht in der Southern African Union. Und die Werkstatt? Voll bis unters Dach.

Also wird kurzerhand auf dem Parkplatz geschraubt. 🔧

Nach knapp 1,5 Tagen ist das Getriebe endlich draußen … und dann kommt die ganze Katastrophe zum Vorschein:

Der Ausrückzylinder ist geplatzt, die Kupplung ist verbrannt und noch einiges mehr hat sich verabschiedet. 😱

Und natürlich gibt es kein einziges passendes Teil in Afrika.

Heißt: Teile aus Deutschland bestellen und mindestens 14 Tage warten. 🙈

Tja … dann heißt es erstmal Wäsche waschen und einen neuen Plan machen. 😂

Denn eines ist jetzt klar: Wir kommen nicht mehr pünktlich aus dem Land.

Aber aufgeben? Kommt nicht infrage.

Wir sind schließlich mit THE BEAST – A ZETROS 6x6 unterwegs. 💪🔥

Mal sehen, was uns als Nächstes erwartet … 😎🌍🚛

🇺🇸🇬🇧 Sometimes, a journey writes its own stories … ❤️🌍

We were actually on our way to Zimbabwe. But in Bronkhorstspruit, everything suddenly came to a halt. 😳

Our clutch gave up – and there we were, stranded in the middle of South Africa. There was no way to continue under our own power.

So we had to call a recovery truck, hook up the Zetros and have it towed to Daimler Trucks Southern Africa in Centurion. 🔧🚛

And the funny thing is, we had only just spent three weeks in a workshop and were so happy to finally be back on the road. Our last post started with the words:
“Three weeks in the workshop … Back where we belong.”

Well … apparently the beast had other plans. 😉

And now things are getting a little exciting …
Our South African visa expires in just two days. 🙈

So, for the moment, we are officially a little stranded in South Africa, waiting for our Zetros to get back on its feet – or rather, back on its six wheels.

All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed, keep our nerves, and hope the repair gets done quickly. 🤞🍀

Because there’s still another country waiting for us: Zimbabwe. 🇿🇼❤️

But that’s probably what overlanding is all about: You plan the route – and Africa writes the itinerary. 😉

🇮🇹 A volte è il viaggio stesso a scrivere la propria storia … ❤️🌍

Eravamo diretti verso lo Zimbabwe. Ma a Bronkhorstspruit tutto si è improvvisamente fermato. 😳

La frizione ha ceduto e ci siamo ritrovati bloccati nel bel mezzo del Sudafrica. Non potevamo più proseguire con le nostre forze.

Così abbiamo dovuto chiamare un carro attrezzi, agganciare il nostro Zetros e farlo trainare fino a Daimler Trucks Southern Africa a Centurion. 🔧🚛

E la cosa quasi ironica è che avevamo appena trascorso tre settimane in officina ed eravamo felicissimi di essere finalmente di nuovo sulla strada. Il nostro ultimo post iniziava proprio così:
“Tre settimane in officina … Di nuovo dove apparteniamo.”

Beh … a quanto pare, la bestia aveva altri programmi. 😉

E ora la situazione si fa un po’ più interessante …
Il nostro visto sudafricano scade tra appena due giorni. 🙈

Quindi, per il momento, siamo ufficialmente un po’ bloccati in Sudafrica, aspettando che il nostro Zetros torni in forma – o meglio, sulle sue sei ruote.

Ora non ci resta che incrociare le dita, mantenere la calma e sperare che la riparazione venga completata rapidamente. 🤞🍀

Perché c’è ancora un altro Paese che ci aspetta: lo Zimbabwe. 🇿🇼❤️

Ma forse è proprio questo il bello dell’overlanding: tu pianifichi il percorso – e l’Africa scrive l’itinerario. 😉

🇧🇷 Às vezes, é a própria viagem que escreve a sua história … ❤️🌍

Estávamos a caminho do Zimbábue. Mas, em Bronkhorstspruit, tudo parou de repente. 😳

A embreagem quebrou – e lá estávamos nós, parados no meio da África do Sul. Não havia mais como continuar por conta própria.

Então tivemos que chamar um caminhão de socorro, engatar o Zetros e rebocá-lo até a Daimler Trucks Southern Africa, em Centurion. 🔧🚛

E o mais curioso é que tínhamos acabado de passar três semanas em uma oficina e estávamos tão felizes por finalmente estar de volta à estrada. Nossa última publicação começava assim:
“Três semanas na oficina … De volta para onde pertencemos.”

Bom … aparentemente, a fera tinha outros planos. 😉

E agora a situação ficou um pouco mais emocionante …
Nosso visto da África do Sul vence daqui a apenas dois dias. 🙈

Então, por enquanto, estamos oficialmente um pouco “presos” na África do Sul, esperando que o nosso Zetros volte a ficar em forma – ou melhor, de volta às suas seis rodas.

Agora é cruzar os dedos, manter a calma e torcer para que o reparo seja concluído rapidamente. 🤞🍀

Porque ainda há outro país esperando por nós: o Zimbábue. 🇿🇼❤️

Mas talvez seja justamente isso que significa viajar de overland: você planeja a rota – e a África escreve o roteiro. 😉

🇩🇪 Manchmal schreibt eine Reise ihre eigenen Geschichten … ❤️🌍

Eigentlich waren wir auf dem Weg nach Zimbabwe. Doch in Bronkhorstspruit war plötzlich Schluss. 😳

Unsere Kupplung hat aufgegeben – und damit standen wir mitten in Südafrika. Aus eigener Kraft ging es nicht mehr weiter.

Also hieß es: Abschleppwagen organisieren, den Zetros anhängen und schleppen lassen und ab nach Centurion zu Daimler Trucks Southern Africa. 🔧🚛

Dabei hatten wir gerade erst drei Wochen Werkstatt hinter uns und waren so glücklich, endlich wieder unterwegs zu sein. Unser letzter Beitrag begann schließlich mit den Worten:
„Drei Wochen in der Werkstatt … Zurück dort, wo wir hingehören.“

Tja … manchmal hat das Biest offenbar andere Pläne. 😉

Und jetzt wird es ein bisschen spannend …
Unser südafrikanisches Visum läuft in gerade einmal zwei Tagen ab. 🙈

Wir sind also tatsächlich ein wenig in Südafrika gestrandet und warten darauf, dass unser Zetros wieder auf die Beine – oder besser gesagt: auf seine sechs Räder – kommt.

Jetzt heißt es Daumen drücken, Nerven behalten und hoffen, dass die Reparatur schnell über die Bühne geht. 🤞🍀

Denn eigentlich wartet da noch ein Land auf uns: Zimbabwe. 🇿🇼❤️

Aber genau das ist wohl Overlanding: Man plant eine Route – und Afrika schreibt den Reiseplan einfach selbst. 😉

🇺🇸🇬🇧 The wait was worth it—just look at this result! 🧀✨
The Camembert has aged to perfection, delightfully creamy and soft on the inside, and tastes like an absolute dream. "Cheese making in an expedition truck" has turned out to be a great success once again.
Now we’re going to enjoy the fruits of our labor—handmade culinary bliss on the road really doesn't get any better than this! 😋🍷🚐

Il Camembert è maturato alla perfezione, meravigliosamente cremoso e morbido all'interno e con un gusto davvero da sogno. Fare il formaggio in un camion da spedizione si è rivelato ancora una volta un grande successo.
Ora ce lo gustiamo al meglio: il piacere del fatto a mano in viaggio non potrebbe essere migliore di così! 😋🍷🚐

🇧🇷 A espera valeu a pena—olhem só esse resultado! 🧀✨
O Camembert maturou perfeitamente, maravilhosamente cremoso e macio por dentro, com um sabor absolutamente dos deuses. "Fazer queijo em um caminhão de expedição" foi mais uma vez um grande sucesso.
Agora vamos saborear o resultado—o prazer do feito à mão na estrada realmente não tem como ser melhor do que isso! 😋🍷🚐

Der Camembert ist perfekt gereift, innen wunderbar cremig-weich und geschmacklich ein absoluter Traum. „Käsemachen im Expeditionstruck“ ist damit wieder einmal mehr gelungen.
Jetzt lassen wir uns das Ergebnis schmecken – besser geht handgemachter Genuss auf Reisen wirklich nicht! 😋🍷🚐

🇺🇸🇬🇧 Nearly 20,000 kilometers through Africa have left their mark! 🚚🌍💥
The rough tracks took quite a toll on our roof structure: two bolts gave way, causing the frame to warp and creating cracks in the support beams.
So it was time for some serious heavy-duty repair in the workshop: new bolts installed, pressing the roof back tightly against the beams from the inside, welding new brackets, and sealing everything back up properly. To be on the safe side, we also added extra supports on both the left and right sides. 💪🛠️
Finally, the bent sections on the quad platform were straightened out and given a fresh coat of paint. Now everything is rock solid again and ready for the road ahead! 🏍️✨🎨

🇮🇹 Quasi 20.000 chilometri attraverso l'Africa hanno decisamente lasciato il segno! 🚚🌍💥
Le piste africane hanno messo a dura prova la struttura del nostro tetto: due bulloni hanno ceduto, il telaio si è deformato e si sono formate delle crepe sui travi di supporto.
In officina ci siamo messi subito al lavoro: installato nuovi bulloni, spinto di nuovo il tetto dall'interno contro i travi, saldato nuove staffe e sigillato accuratamente il tutto. Per sicurezza, abbiamo aggiunto ulteriori sostegni sia a sinistra che a destra. 💪🛠️
Infine, le parti piegate della piattaforma per il quad sono state raddrizzate e verniciate a nuovo. Ora la struttura è di nuovo solidissima e pronta per le prossime avventure! 🏍️✨🎨

🇧🇷 Quase 20.000 quilômetros pela África deixaram marcas evidentes! 🚚🌍💥
As estradas exigiram muito da nossa estrutura do teto: dois parafusos cederam, fazendo com que a estrutura entortasse e surgissem rachaduras nas vigas de suporte.
Por isso, o trabalho na oficina foi pesado: colocamos parafusos novos, pressionamos o teto por dentro de volta contra as vigas, soldamos novos suportes e vedamos tudo perfeitamente. Para garantir ainda mais firmeza, adicionamos reforços extras nos lados esquerdo e direito. 💪🛠️
Por fim, desentortamos as partes dobradas da plataforma do quadriciclo e aplicamos uma pintura nova. Agora tudo está super resistente de novo e pronto para as próximas jornadas! 🏍️✨🎨

🇩🇪 Fast 20.000 Kilometer Querfeldein durch Afrika hinterlassen eben doch ihre Spuren! 🚚🌍💥
Die Pisten haben unserem Dachaufbau ganz schön zugesetzt: Zwei Bolzen haben nachgegeben, der Aufbau hat sich leicht verzogen und dadurch sind Risse in den Trägern entstanden.
Also hieß es in der Werkstatt: Ran an die Substanz! Neue Bolzen rein, das Dach von innen wieder sauber gegen die Träger drücken, neue Halterungen schweißen und alles sorgfältig abdichten. Um auf Nummer sicher zu gehen, gab es links und rechts noch eine zusätzliche Abstützung. 💪🛠️
Zu guter Letzt wurden noch die verbogenen Stellen an der Quad-Bühne gerichtet und frisch lackiert. Jetzt ist die Konstruktion wieder bombenfest und bereit für die nächsten Abenteuer! 🏍️✨🎨

🇺🇸🇬🇧 Remember our cheese-making session in Mount Currie? 🧀✨
Here’s a quick update from our mobile creamery: In these photos, you can see how the ripening process is coming along!
The small wheels were inoculated with Penicillium candidum—they’re turning into lovely white mold cheeses, Camembert-style. ⚪️🌾
They are aging in a compressor fridge purchased specifically for this purpose. The required ripening temperature can be set precisely, and the humidity can be regulated very well, too. A perfect aging cellar on wheels! ❄️🌡️🚚

Aqui está uma atualização da nossa queijaria móvel: nas fotos, vocês podem ver como o processo de maturação está se desenvolvendo!
As pequenas peças foram inoculadas com Penicillium candidum—elas estão se transformando em belos queijos de m**o branco, no estilo Camembert. ⚪️🌾
Eles estão maturando em um freezer/geladeira portátil de compressor adquirido especialmente para isso. A temperatura de maturação necessária pode ser ajustada com precisão e a umidade também é muito fácil de regular. O ambiente perfeito sobre rodas! ❄️🌡️🚚

Le piccole forme sono state inoculate con Penicillium candidum—stanno diventando splendidi formaggi a crosta fiorita tipo Camembert. ⚪️🌾
Stanno maturando in un frigorifero portatile a compressore acquistato appositamente. La temperatura di stagionatura richiesta può essere impostata con precisione e anche l'umidità si regola benissimo. Una cantina di stagionatura perfetta su ruote! ❄️ 🌡️🚚

Hier ist ein kleiner Zwischenstand aus unserer mobilen Käserei: Auf den Bildern seht ihr, wie sich der Reifeprozess entwickelt!
Die kleinen Laibe wurden mit Penicillium candidum geimpft – daraus werden edle Weißschimmelkäse nach Camembert-Art. ⚪️🌾
Sie reifen in einer eigens dafür angeschafften Kompressor-Kühlbox. Dort lässt sich die erforderliche Reifetemperatur präzise einstellen und auch die Feuchtigkeit sehr gut regulieren. Ein perfekter Reifeschrank auf Rädern! ❄️🌡️🚚

There, we’re heading to a body shop to finally get rid of the old scars from past off-road adventures. 🛠️🇨🇩
As a reminder: On the extreme tracks in the Congo, we heavily damaged our rear storage boxes and the tail lift. 🚚💥 In Namibia, the damage was only temporarily fixed. Now, everything is going to be professionally repaired and restored. 👨‍🔧✨
Over the next few posts, we’ll take you along step by step through the process. 📸⚙️
Before the bodybuilders can get to work, however, the batteries—completely caked in sand from countless kilometers of corrugated tracks—have to be removed to cut all power to the Zetros. ⏳🔋🔌

Lá, vamos a uma oficina de funilaria para finalmente eliminar as velhas marcas de aventuras off-road passadas. 🛠️🇨🇩

Rinfreschiamo la memoria: Sulle piste estreme del Congo avevamo danneggiato pesantemente i cassoni posteriori e la sponda idraulica. 🚚💥 In Namibia i danni erano stati riparati solo provvisoriamente. Ora tutto verrà sistemato a regola d'arte. 👨‍🔧✨

Prima che i carrozzieri possano iniziare, però, bisogna smontare le batterie—completamente insabbiate dopo innumerevoli chilometri di pista—per togliere completamente la corrente al Zetros. ⏳🔋🔌

Dort geht es in eine Karosseriewerkstatt, um endlich alte Spuren vergangener Offroad-Abenteuer beseitigen zu lassen. 🛠️🇨🇩
Zur Erinnerung: Auf den extremen Pisten im Kongo hatten wir uns die hinteren Stauboxen und die Hebebühne massiv beschädigt. 🚚💥 In Namibia wurden die Schäden nur notdürftig repariert. Nun soll das Ganze fachmännisch instand gesetzt werden. 👨‍🔧✨
In den kommenden Beiträgen nehmen wir euch durch die einzelnen Arbeitsschritte mit. 📸⚙️
Bevor die Karosseriebauer loslegen können, müssen jedoch erst die von unzähligen Pistenkilometern völlig versandeten Batterien ausgebaut werden, um den Zetros stromlos zu machen. ⏳🔋🔌

🇺🇸🇬🇧 From the dairy farm straight to the truck kitchen! 🚛🥛
A friendly farmer provided us with fresh raw milk a few days ago – a real treat while traveling. At the campsite at Mount Currie, our Zetros quickly turned into a little artisanal creamery.
First, the fresh curd goes into the molds to drain (Photos 1 & 2). 🧀
And while the new cheese needs its time, there was a reunion on the cutting board (Photos 3 & 4): A homemade cheese that we made in Namibia using original French Salers culture. 🇫🇷🇳🇦 After aging for months, it was finally cut open here in South Africa – pure delight! 🇳🇦➡️🇿🇦🔪✨

🇧🇷 Da fazenda leiteira direto para a cozinha do caminhão! 🚛🥛
Um fazendeiro simpático nos forneceu leite cru fresco há alguns dias – uma verdadeira sorte na estrada. No camping em Mount Currie, nosso Zetros rapidamente se transformou em uma pequena queijaria artesanal.
Primeiro, a coalhada fresca vai para as formas para escorrer (Fotos 1 e 2). 🧀
E enquanto o novo queijo precisa de tempo, houve um reencontro na tábua de cortar (Fotos 3 e 4): Um queijo caseiro que fiz na Namíbia usando a cultura francesa original de Salers. 🇫🇷🇳🇦 Depois de meses de maturação, ele foi finalmente cortado aqui na África do Sul – um verdadeiro deleite! 🇳🇦➡️🇿🇦🔪✨

🇮🇹 Dall'azienda agricola direttamente alla cucina del camion! 🚛🥛
Un gentile allevatore ci ha fornito latte crudo fresco qualche giorno fa – una vera fortuna in viaggio. Al campeggio di Mount Currie, il nostro Zetros si è trasformato in un piccolo caseificio artigianale.
Prima la cagliata fresca va negli stampi a sgocciolare (Foto 1 e 2). 🧀
E mentre il nuovo formaggio ha bisogno del suo tempo, c'è stato un incontro speciale sul tagliere (Foto 3 e 4): Un formaggio fatto in casa che abbiamo prodotto in Namibia utilizzando l'originale coltura francese Salers. 🇫🇷🇳🇦 Dopo mesi di maturazione, è stato finalmente tagliato qui in Sudafrica – un vero piacere! 🇳🇦➡️🇿🇦🔪✨

🇩🇪 Vom Milchbetrieb direkt in die LKW-Küche! 🚛🥛
Ein freundlicher Farmer hat uns vor einigen Tagen mit frischer Rohmilch versorgt – ein echter Glücksfall auf Reisen. Auf dem Campingplatz am Mount Currie wurde unser Zetros dann kurzerhand zur kleinen Hofkäserei.
Zuerst wandert der frische Käsebruch in die Formen zum Abtropfen (Bilder 1 & 2). 🧀
Und während der neue Käse seine Zeit braucht, gab es auf dem Schneidebrett ein Wiedersehen mit der Vergangenheit (Bilder 3 & 4): Ein selbstgemachter Käse, den wir in Namibia mit original französischer Salers-Kultur hergestellt haben. 🇫🇷🇳🇦 Nach monatelanger Reifezeit wurde er nun hier in Südafrika angeschnitten – ein absoluter Genuss! 🇳🇦➡️🇿🇦🔪✨

About three years ago, we were faced with a choice. A lung cancer diagnosis and only half a lung left. The doctors' prognoses and advice were clear: Stay at home. 🛑🏥
But we set off anyway – with our Zetros – against all reason, heading towards Africa and all the way down the West Coast, through deserts and the deepest rainforest. And today, we are standing here. 🗺️🚛

Our message to everyone out there who is fighting a tough battle right now: Never give up! ✨ Believe in your dreams, no matter how strong the headwind.

Há cerca de três anos, enfrentámos uma decisão. O diagnóstico de cancro do pulmão e apenas metade de um pulmão. Os prognósticos e conselhos dos médicos foram claros: Fiquem em casa. 🛑🏥
Mas partimos mesmo assim – com o nosso Zetros – contra toda a razão, em direção a África e descendo toda a Costa Ocidental, através de desertos e da floresta tropical mais profunda. E hoje, estamos aqui de pé. 🗺️🚛
