In chivanhu, musha without moto is not a musha. It's just walls.
Why Moto never dies:
Before electricity, before gas, one fire in centre of hut did everything. That shallow pit with 3 stones — choto — is university, court, and church. Gogo never let it die. At night she covered embers with ash — kukuvadza moto — so it lives till morning.
What happens around Moto:
1. Chikoro / School — Gota & Nhanga happen around moto. Sekuru teaches tsumo, ambuya teaches sadza, children listen with legs crossed on reed mat. No fire, no lesson.
2. Dare / Inkundla — Elders settle cases around moto under hut, not in office. Fire warms both sides, truth speaks.
3. Bira & Mbira — Mbira dzevadzimu is played facing moto. Smoke carries prayer to vadzimu. That's why mbira in image is leaning near fire — ready for night.
Shona say "Moto wechivanhu haudzimi" — fire of chivanhu never dies. Ndebele say umlilo ungumama womuzi — fire is mother of home. When you enter, you first greet moto — "Kwaziwai" to fire, then to people. If you disrespect moto — spit in it, step over it — vadzimu get angry.
Today we have stove with switch. Our grandmothers kept one flame for 30 years without matchbox.

As we remember the illustrious son of the soil, the late Vice President Simon Muzenda, we honour a patriot whose contribution to Zimbabwe’s liberation and development remains enduring.

His vision for education, skills and national development continues to resonate in the philosophy of Education 5.0—equipping Zimbabweans to create, innovate and build their nation.

A legacy of service. A legacy of nation-building. 🇿🇼

An African empire that outlasted most European monarchies — and almost nobody has heard of it.

From Mutota's founding in 1430 to the death of the last Munhumutapa in 1917, the Mutapa Empire survived conquest, religious conversion, civil war, and colonization — nearly five centuries of one royal line adapting and enduring.

This video dramatizes real documented history through composite reenactment. Names, dates, and events are drawn from the historical record.

DARE — Before High Court, we had fire under baobab 🔥⚖️

No lawyers, no jail, no uniforms. Just elders in circle, one tsvimbo, and truth.

In chivanhu, justice was not punishment — it was restoring harmony. Offender says "Ndine mhosva", pays goat or cow, then drinks beer with victim. Village heals, not breaks.

In Ndebele it's INKUNDLA, in Shona DARE — same hunhu: kuteerera, kuripa, kuyanana.

Today we take brother to police for US$5 dispute. Our grandfathers settled 10 cows dispute with one beer.

Have you ever sat in real Dare? What case did you see elders solve without police — cows, land, fight? And should we bring back Dare for small cases today instead of courts? What does your village do now? 👇

MITUPO — Before ID cards, we had totems 🦁🔥

In chivanhu, your mutupo is not your favourite animal. It's your blood line. Passed from father to child. About 25 totems total in Zimbabwe — Moyo, Shumba, Soko, Shava, Nzou, Dube, Hungwe, Dziva, Ngwena...

Why? 3 reasons:
1. Identity — who are your people?
2. Taboo — you CANNOT marry your own mutupo — Moyo haaroore Moyo!
3. Respect — you don't kill or eat your totem.

Shona call it mutupo, Ndebele call it izibongo — same root, same hunhu.

So today — what is YOUR mutupo? What is your chidawo? Like Shumba — Chiredzi? Moyo — Chirandu? Soko — Mukanya? Drop it below!

And honest — do our kids still know their mitupo? Or will they be lost? Should we teach mitupo in schools? 👇
