Tomorrow, South Africa marks a monumental milestone in the global history of wildlife protection.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will officially launch the Kruger National Park Centenary Commemorations at Skukuza Rest Camp, celebrating 100 years since the park's formal proclamation in 1926.
Operating under the powerful theme, “Our Heritage, Our Future,” this centenary honors a century of biodiversity leadership, ecological research, and the dedicated rangers, scientists, and communities who have guarded this world-renowned sanctuary. The commemoration also shines a light on the resilience of the park and its neighboring areas as infrastructure recovers from recent regional flooding.
What this milestone means for the Maruleng community:
The legacy of the Kruger National Park is deeply woven into the fabric of Hoedspruit and the broader Maruleng ecosystem. As a primary gateway to the park, our local economy, safari lodges, and hospitality businesses thrive because of this century-old conservation triumph.
When the Kruger National Park grows in global prestige, it directly impacts us, driving international tourism, fueling sustainable development, and creating long-term jobs right here in our community. We stand proud alongside our neighbors in celebrating a century of shared heritage and natural wonder.
Let’s celebrate our wild heritage! If your business or family has deep roots connected to the Kruger National Park, share your favorite park memory or a message of gratitude for our rangers in the comments below. 👇
