After 17 consecutive days of camping, we decided to treat ourselves to a room in The Delight Swakopmund hotel. As much as we looove our van, Morrison, it was so nice to spread out on a big bed and we didnā€™t need to put our shoes on to go to the loo at night šŸ˜‚.
And the breakfast there is superb, with oysters and bubbly on the buffet every morning.

We also found a very cool German pub called Altstadt with great staff and ambience, as well as delicious Indian food at Garnish Restaurant. It was quite cold in Swakopmund though!

The salt road that runs between North Henties Bay and Swakopmund is made from gravel, gypsum and salt and it is sprayed with sea water to keep the surface hard and salty once the water evaporates.
When we got to Swakop, we treated van Morrison to a good spray down and wash to get all the salt and dust off - BUTā€¦ they scrubbed our spade squeaky clean! šŸ˜±
Any overlander will know that it is very uncool to drive around with a clean spade šŸ˜‚

Hello Namibian roads! After driving many thousands of kilometres of disintegrated and pothole infested roads in Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania, it was an absolute joy to arrive on Namibiaā€™s beautiful smooth roads. It was clear that they are actively fixing potholes and damaged road surfaces, investing in new tarred roads, and on the main gravel roads, we have seen graders working to keep them in good condition. It seems that Namibia are actually spending the road taxes we paid at the border, where it matters. šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ» Letā€™s hope they keep it up!

Not only did we drive from Knysna to Kilimanjaro, we also did East to West Africa. Bagamoyo, Tanzania, being our furthest point East, and Henties Bay, Namibia, our furthest point West.

Our journey took us further down to Namibiaā€™s very scenic Erongo region, known for its many rocky peaks (koppies) and dry thornbush savannahs.
11 km West of Omaruru, we stumbled upon a really stunning campsite KaribušŸ‡³šŸ‡¦ and campsites. Owner Dirkie is the proud owner of a Mercedes Sprinter van too, and we had fun checking out each otherā€™s vans.

The campsite is set next to a dry riverbed under huge ancient trees. It is in a conservation area, so to keep campers safe (leopard are known to like this area) there is a fence around the campsite. In this area there are also lots of Zebra Cobras, highly venomous snakes. The bottom part of the fence is completely covered by mesh that goes into a cement strip in the ground and Dirkie claims there have been no snake incidents since that was put in place - thank goodness!

We had the entire campsite to ourselves, with hot water from a donkey boiler, good shower pressure, and we had Kudu and Zebra walking past the campsite.

Dirkie also owns a few beautiful chalets for people who donā€™t want to camp.

We left White Sands lodge and camp and headed out of the Caprivi on the B8. In the town of Divundu at the Shell garage, is the Hombe takeaway shop and supermarket that sells delicious peri peri samosas, hot real chips and other hot food that are fresh and tasty.

We headed South through the Mururani Vet gate. Our fridge did get checked for the presence of uncooked meat - note that it is not allowed to bring meat whilst travelling from North to South along that line.

Right next to the Mururani gate is a farm and the family had converted part of their large garden into a campsite (Mururani Camp). The lovely owner Rensie said we could camp there, and we were really surprised at finding such a nice little oasis seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

There was a lapa, swimming pool, good ablutions with hot water, for campers to enjoy. The sunset from the property was spectacular.

As the campground is situated on a working farm, we had some cute bleating lambs for company šŸ„°. Mururani Camp is a great choice of stopover on the B8 for travellers to/from the Caprivi.

Namushasha River Lodge Gondwana Collection Namibia The main lodge area with renovated bar area was just beautiful. And it was walking distance from the campsites. The turn off to this lodge and campsite is just off Kongola, where there is a good shop, liquor store and bakery to stock up on.
