012 SOUTH is a New School Hip Hop group based in Pretoria, South Africa. The Group consists of three members: J.1.6, Dr Feel and MAT. The group was formed in mid 2009 when the members met in the south of Pretoria. At the time J.1.6 and MAT were individual artists, recording and performing in and around Pretoria before they met Dr. Feel, a New Skul Hip Hop Producer. After recording some few tracks,
it became evident that their individual styles gelled well together and the rest was History. Hence the establishment of the New Skul hip hop group 012 SOUTH. J.1.6 Dr Feel MAT
012 SOUTH previously released a mixtape entitled – 012 South Vol.1- and have currently released a debut album – The Light- Which is doing great in local stores. This is due to the overwhelming effort 012 South puts into getting their music to their fans, by promoting the Album in Shopping malls, Schools, Universities and Colleges. 012 South are fast making a name for themselves and are confident the new album is going to unlock a new market with their high Energizing beats, elegant rhymes and innovative marketing strategies. 012 SOUTH intends to be one of the most influential Independent Record labels and moreover a Brand. Performing nationally in South Africa and regionally in Southern Africa before taking the world by storm in the International arena. 012 South vision is not only to record music but also promote and market their products as well. Launching a clothing label, organizing events in clubs, managing new and upcoming artists, DJs, Dancers and Stand up Comedians. To obtain these goals is going to require hard work, patience and a lot of sleepless nights but the members of the 012 south are young, vibrant and passionate individuals capable of achieving the task. Because of their hard work and determination 012SOUTH has already shared the stage with some of the biggest artist in SA. In Garankuwa at the 100Bars show they shared the stage with AKA, at THE STAGE NIGHTS at State Theater they shared the stage with DEEP LEVEL, H2O, BLOOD SPILLERS, at the YOUTH CELEBRATIONS that were held in Olieven they shared the stage with OSKIDO, SHIMZA. They also shared a stage with HHP,TUKS, SPAZASHOP BOYS,RAS MASH, CASPER, KG(MORAFE)at EUROPA GROOVE LOUNGE. They have also done gigs out of Pretoria in Brits for Lehlabile Radio Station. Currently 012South completed working on their new album (HALLO TO THE WORLD) which is due to be released early 2012.
012 SOUTH’S MISSION
012 South are on a mission to do a KASI TO KASI TOUR mainly focusing on HIGH SCHOOLS raising awareness on HIV n AIDS. This idea came after 1 of the members lost a very close friend who was doing her matrics. Because of the deadly disease she never realized her dreams of being a University Graduate. After talking to the family members he found out that most families in the hood don’t talk to their children about sex hence they get most of the teaching from their friends which won’t be the right thing to do. Thousands of the youth get infected with this deadly disease because of lack of knowledge. People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily. Fact of the matter is these students need someone they can be able to relate to, hence the 012 South crew who are young and vibrant decided to help in educating their fellow mates on how to be responsible future generation. A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle, that’s what makes us. 012 South want to make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skilful young leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better. Leaders aren’t born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through HARD WORK. And that’s the price we’ll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal…
