The Big Green Box offers secure self storage on a short or long term basis. The company has 100 containers available. Hire and use them at the Twin Palm premises or have them delivered to use as secure storage on your own site. Aptly named, The Big Green Box is one of the first storage facility companies in Zambia. They take every precaution to ensure that all goods are protected whilst in storage. Clients who choose to keep their goods within the premises have access during office hours.
The Big Green Box is one of the first storage facility companies in Zambia. Big Green Box containers can be rented out on a short or long term basis, from as little as K 560.00 deposit. The Big Green Box also offers vehicle storage, from as little as K 800.00 deposit. The Big Green Box offers four storage options

Storage and the weather
The Big Green Box takes every precaution to ensure that all goods are protected whilst in storage. The shipping containers are designed to be weather proof in all weather conditions. However, as Zambian weather can sometimes be severe, the company advises clients to take extra measures by protecting valuables with plastic insulation. This company has also taken measures to reduce the impact of heat on all its containers. Container roofs have been painted white to reflect the sun and a mounted shade cloth hangs above the container rows, further protecting them from the heat. Clients who have items particularly sensitive to heat can rent a container with an alububble ceiling. The alububble absorbs 95% of the heat and will make a significant difference to the internal temperature of the container. Access
Access is between 08:00 and 17:00 hours from Monday to Friday and 08:30 to 12:30 hours on Saturdays. Rental periods
Storage with The Big Green Box, whether on or off site, is charged in 28 day blocks. Clients who wish to terminate their storage with the company are requested to have their items removed from containers by 17:00 hours on the 28th day and by 16:00 hours if the container is at a site of the client’s choice. A deposit is charged for a 28 day block. Deposits are returned on the 28th day at close of business, provided containers are left in good condition. Late payments are calculated on a daily rate (x/28) plus a 10% penalty fee. This is compounded daily for each day the client is overdue until the eviction date, which is 14 days after the payment was due. Shelving
Shelving is available in 3 meter blocks. These shelving blocks are also rented out for a 28 day rental fee. Each block has two 60cm deep shelves, one 80cm high and the second 160cm high. (If you require shelves running down each side of a 20 foot container, you will need 4 x 3 meter blocks.) ID checks
The safety of clients’ goods is of utmost importance to The Big Green Box. Therefore, clients are required to leave a copy of their identification card, and photo ID of anyone else granted access to their storage containers. Any changes to client details, authorised persons or storage insurance terms must be communicated in writing. Passports, registration cards or driving license copies are all accepted as identification cards. ID will be checked twice at The Big Green Box premises, once by security and once by a Big Green Box member of staff. Whilst this may seem time-consuming, the procedure is in place for the protection of client property. Security
The Big Green Box premises are protected by electric fencing, laser beams and armed security guards. CCTV is constantly monitored by the company’s security head office and a rapid response team is available when there is a breach at any level. Individual keypad alarms are available at a small additional fee per month. Clients who choose to make use of individual alarm systems will receive a 40% discount on their insurance premiums. A penalty fee of ZMW50 will be charged for each false alarm resulting from a client accessing their container and setting the alarm off. This is because the security company has to respond by vehicle to each and every alarm that goes off. They cannot be called off as this would be a breach of their protocols. Locks
Each container has four padlock points. The Big Green Box sells high quality ABUS locks specifically designed for container security. When purchased, these locks belong to the client and can be taken when the lease period is complete. At no point will an employee of The Big Green Box hold copies of any padlock keys. Clients are welcome to use their own locks to secure their container provided they meet the security standards of The Big Green Box. Security seals
In addition to all other security measures, clients are provided with serialised security seals. These are put in place by the client at the end of every visit and are witnessed as being intact by the client at the beginning of the next visit. To cover the cost of additional seals, a nominal fee will be charged if clients exceed eight visits within the 28 day block. Insurance
The Big Green Box has negotiated an affordable insurance contract with Professional Insurance. This policy is only available for goods stored within the premises. Insurance premiums are payable with the rental fee. Staff members are available to explain terms of payment to each client. The insurance policy is automatically terminated for accounts that fall into arrears. Contents with a value greater than ZMW260,000 need to be inspected by a member of Professional Insurance. In the case of motor vehicles in storage, inspections have to be done in each and every aspect. Goods are only insured whilst they are inside the container. The company encourages clients to be meticulous in the itemisation and pricing of their containerised goods. Both the correct estimation of goods and the updating of the schedule (whenever the goods in the container change) are the responsibility of the client. Storage rates – standard
•Standard container – K 1,600.00 per 28 days plus VAT (refundable deposit of K 1,600.00)

•Premium container (insulated and alarmed) – K 2,160.00 plus VAT (5% discount for 1 year advance payment and 10% discount for 2 year advance payment)

If you require the container to be delivered to you, the delivery charge is dependent on the site. It starts at approximately K 880.00 (excluding VAT) for sites within Lusaka, although it may possibly be higher. Off-site container rental attracts a refundable deposit of K1,560.00 for a standard container and K 1,920.00 for a standard container with insulation. Rental fees for off-site storage:
