Hello! We thought we'd make this post to celebrate a small milestone in our journey.... our account today celebrating 20 years on YouTube. And believe it or not, back then, we were actually uploading videos!

YouTube back in its infancy was a much different beast compared to the juggernaut it is now. People uploaded plain videos to share, no intros, no 'like and subscribe', no chasing views, subscribers or clout.... they were just sharing either their life moments or their creativity at the time. For many of us railway enthusiasts, it was a way for us to share our videos of trains we captured, but none of us would ever think back then to talk to the camera lens and create an entire cult following of ourselves as many aspire to do now!

Back in 2006, I was at university and studying media, specialising in Television Production, so this was my means of sharing the videos of trains I captured and try and practice and learn how to edit, but also properly 'craft' a video into something that's watchable to wider audiences. I would later graduate from that degree and spend a few years working in the television industry, in broadcast operations and also my dream stint as a news cameraman and editor, but ironically would leave that industry years later for a completely different career path!

Rheilffordd as a brand and the videos we've made has only come about since 2022, as we sought to re-enter the game of making videos about topics we're passionate about, heritage railways and transport, using all the experience, skills and practices that I had previously done when working in the Television Industry. We're not about chasing views, subscribers or clout, but a genuine focus and drive to capture the stories and atmosphere of the people who operate, organise and look after all the subjects that we feature in our videos.

As a bonus, in the comment below, I have made public one of my original videos from 2006, which features steam operations on the then, New South Wales Rail Transport Museum, Thirlmere Loop Line, located South of Sydney. You can enjoy that video in all its 240p or so goodness and the crappy captioning I did back then compared to what we do now!

Unfortunately as Rheilffordd is just a side-gig from my real full-time job, it requires a lot of time and effort to produce, time of which is becoming more and more limited as my work is very demanding as well as my personal life outside of it always comes first ahead of making and producing videos. We have most certainly NOT given up or stopped producing, if anything we've had to pivot our activity to much more financially lucrative commercial work outside of the YouTube platform that have surprisingly made us a lot of valuable income to invest in our equipment.

We will aim to try and get out at least one Rheilffordd video....this year, lol!

In the meantime, thank you to all of you who have watched our videos, subscribed, and even more so, remember our brand for what we do, which means more to us than metrics ever will. Thank you and good day!

Not a video we would ever intend to make, but an honour to have the blessing to make as a way of remembering a rightful send off for the larger than life Bernie Baker, in a way he would have greatly enjoyed behind his beloved and namesake EMD Diesel Locomotives!

We sadly lost an absolute legend and character of the railway industry and community, that being Bernie Baker.

The following is an interview (Duration about 15 minutes) we did with Bernie at Streamliners 2022, held in Goulburn NSW, as part of our documentary about this event. This full interview that's been unedited immortalises the spirt and character of Bernie Baker in his absolute element surrounded by his beloved EMD Locomotives and more so, being able to bring many enthusiasts together to celebrate and enjoy their presence.

This video is our best and most treasured memory of Bernie and we wish to share it with you all to immortalise his character and spirit to you all, one of character, kindness and passion to all he met.

On a personal level... I have known Bernie for almost twenty years, and was very privileged to be apart of his life and his family particularly as a young person trying to find my way in the world. I owe a lot of my own values of kindness and fairness through the many years I spent with Bernie.

Vale Bernie Baker

We are heartbroken and devastated with the news of today's passing of prominent railway enthusiast, photographer and retired train driver, Bernie Baker.

Bernie featured in our documentary about Streamliners 2022, the event he organised as a celebration of Australia's EMD Streamlined locomotives. This event was a minuscule representation of the character and heart Bernie had for railways and for his fellow passionate enthusiasts and human beings.

Proceeds from our Streamliners 2022 video will be progressively donated to the Streamliners Australia group who are aiming to have locomotive CL17 restored and running on the mainline, which is featured in this video.

We are nothing short of privileged and honoured to have been apart of his life and considered family to each other 😢

Addendum 1/7/26 - We have just uploaded to this page the full unedited interview we did with Bernie at the Streamliners 2022 event, as a way to immortalise his character and spirit when it came to his love of railways and EMD locomotives. It can be viewed and also shared from here, thank you!

Hello! This coming weekend, the 4th and 5th July 2026, is the next and upcoming Brisbane Model Train Show 2026, back at the Northside Indoor Sports Centre in Zillmere, and hosted by the wonderful Australian Model Railway Association Queensland Inc.

We covered this exhibition in a full documentary video last year and it highlights a lot of optimism in the future of the hobby, with new technology and enthusiasm allowing modellers to really take on recreating Queensland's predominantly narrow gauge railways, which what was traditionally a cottage industry state when it came to trying to model this prototype. This year's show is aiming to be bigger and better than ever!

You can watch our video from last year in the comment below ⬇️

Thank you, and good day!

Hello! just checking in again! We've been busy making videos for other groups, such as the Adelaide Model Railway Exhibition which is coming this Long Weekend in my home city of Adelaide. It's been a pleasure and a blast to work with this event and be able to make content to grow visitor numbers and ticket sales for it all, but overall, bring the hobby of model railways out into the open for anyone curiously interested!

Anyhow, check out the website at modelrailwayshow.org.au for more information on Ticket Bookings and how to get there, and of course, we will definitely be there all weekend filming stock footage, look for us with the big camera and Rheilffordd branding. Thank you and good day!

Another reason why our YouTube videos have come to a standstill, we’re busy doing commercial work for other parties as well as doing the odd community contribution in making advertisements for them! 📺🎥

This is our latest contribution, for the upcoming Adelaide Model Railway Exhibition coming this June Long Weekend!

Drawing on my previous experience in the Television Industry, we devised this advertisement to be as short, sharp and deliver all the pertinent details, in particular, the change in venue location. Thanks to our voiceover talent Sophia Nevele for her narration of this ad!

Hello! We recently returned from a weekend in Corowa, NSW, where we attended the 2026 National Fly-In for the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia, and what an incredible event this was!

This event is like a car club rally, but full of vintage and antique aircraft that are still flying and kept airworthy, to preserve history and for the enjoyment of their owners.

We were here filming on behalf of the AAAA (I’m actually a Committee Member on their board!) and today released a short summary video of this weekend gathering on the page. Go check it out, link is in the comment below.

As for the rest of Rheilffordd production, editing continues at slow pace while we continue to be distracted by more lucrative commercial work that pays, and doing community contributions like our recent ad for the Adelaide Hills Model Railway Show. Production does continue!

Thank you and good day.
