๐Ÿ How to Make Homemade Spaghetti Bolognese!

Easy โ€ข Delicious โ€ข Made with Love

Fresh ingredients. Simple steps. Great memories.

A classic Spaghetti Bolognese is an easy, hearty meal that's perfect for bringing people together. This recipe serves approximately 4โ€“6 people.

๐Ÿ›’ Ingredients

Bolognese Sauce

1 tbsp olive oil

1 brown onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 carrot, finely diced

1 celery stalk, finely diced

500g beef mince

1 ร— 400g can crushed tomatoes

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

ยฝ tsp sugar

ยฝ cup (125ml) beef stock

Salt and pepper to taste

To Serve

500g spaghetti

Grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh parsley, optional

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ Step-by-Step

1. Prepare the vegetables
Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan. Add the onion, garlic, carrot and celery. Cook for approximately 5 minutes or until softened.

2. Brown the beef
Add the beef mince and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until nicely browned. Drain any excess fat if required.

3. Make the Bolognese sauce
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar and beef stock. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.

Reduce the heat and cook uncovered for 20โ€“30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce becomes rich and flavoursome.

4. Cook the spaghetti
While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti in a large saucepan of salted boiling water according to the packet instructions. Drain when cooked.

5. Serve and enjoy!
Top the spaghetti with your homemade Bolognese sauce. Finish with grated Parmesan and fresh parsley if desired.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips for the Perfect Bolognese

For an even richer flavour, allow your sauce to simmer for longer on a low heat. Bolognese is also a great make-ahead meal and can taste even better the following day.

You can sneak in some extra vegetables such as zucchini, mushrooms or capsicum for additional flavour and nutrition.

โค๏ธ Made with love. Made to share. Made for memories.

Cooking isn't only about preparing a meal. Developing everyday kitchen skills can help build confidence, independence and choice, while cooking together provides a wonderful opportunity for social connection.

๐Ÿ’œ NDIS PLAN MANAGEMENT CHANGES โ€“ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

There are some important changes coming to the NDIS, including changes to how plan management will operate in the future.

At Community Care Tailored Support, we believe participants and families should have clear information about changes that may affect their supports.

๐Ÿ”‘ Key changes

๐Ÿ“… October 2026 โ€“ SIL invoices
Plan managers will have additional responsibilities around certain SIL claims, including rejecting invoices where required provider-registration requirements have not been met.

๐Ÿ“… December 2026 โ€“ 90-day claiming period
NDIS claims will generally need to be submitted within 90 days of the support being provided.

๐Ÿ“… October 2027 โ€“ Plan Manager Trusted Panel
The Australian Government plans to introduce a trusted panel of plan management providers.

Participants will then transition to plan managers operating under the new arrangements over an expected six-month transition period.

The detailed design and implementation of these arrangements are still being developed.

๐Ÿ’ก What does this mean for participants now?

For most participants, you do not need to suddenly change your current plan manager.

You can continue using your NDIS plan and accessing your supports while the changes are progressively introduced.

The reforms are part of broader changes across the NDIS, including funding periods, provider registration, claiming and payment requirements, Support Coordination and the introduction of the new planning framework.

๐Ÿ’œ Staying informed puts you in control

NDIS changes can sometimes feel confusing, particularly when different reforms are announced at different times.

We will continue following the changes and sharing information with our community as they are introduced.

๐Ÿ’œ SA Seniors โ€” Are You Receiving the Concessions Youโ€™re Entitled To?

With the cost of everyday living continuing to put pressure on household budgets, itโ€™s important that older South Australians know what government concessions may be available to them.

If you hold an eligible concession card or receive certain Centrelink/DVA payments, you may qualify for assistance with several household expenses.

โšก Energy Bill Concession
Eligible South Australians can currently receive up to $291.27 per year towards energy costs at their principal residence. For most customers, this is applied directly to the electricity bill.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Cost of Living Concession
For the 2026โ€“27 financial year, eligible households can receive $270.60 to assist with everyday living expenses. This is generally paid directly into your nominated bank account.

๐Ÿ’ง Water & Sewerage Concessions
Eligible South Australians may also receive assistance towards water and sewerage costs.

๐Ÿ  Emergency Services Levy Concession
Eligible homeowners may qualify for assistance with the Emergency Services Levy.

โ„๏ธ Medical Heating & Cooling Concession
If you have a clinically verified medical condition requiring frequent heating or cooling, additional assistance may be available. This requires an application completed with a medical practitioner.

๐ŸšŒ SA Seniors Card โ€“ Free Public Transport
From 1 July 2026, the SA Seniors Card was expanded to all eligible South Australians aged 60 and over, regardless of working hours. Cardholders can access free Adelaide Metro public transport 24/7, as well as numerous participating business discounts.

How do I apply?

The good news is that you don't necessarily need to make separate applications for every household concession. The ConcessionsSA household application covers four concessions, including energy and Cost of Living assistance.

You may need your concession-card or Centrelink/DVA details, recent electricity and water bills, bank details and, for homeowners, your Emergency Services Levy assessment.

๐Ÿš• Making Transport More Affordable & Accessible

For some people living with disability or ongoing medical conditions, getting around independently can be difficultโ€”particularly when public transport is not accessible or practical.

South Australiaโ€™s Taxi Subsidy Scheme (SATSS) can help eligible people by subsidising the cost of taxi travel, making everyday transport more affordable.

Access to subsidised taxi travel can help people:

๐Ÿฅ Attend medical and allied health appointments

๐Ÿ›’ Get out for shopping and everyday necessities

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Participate in community and social activities

โค๏ธ Maintain relationships with family, friends and their community

๐ŸŒฑ Increase independence and choice

๐Ÿš• Access transport when buses, trains or other public transport aren't suitable

๐Ÿก Remain active and connected within their community

Transport isn't simply about getting from one place to another. Reliable and affordable transport can support independence, social connection, wellbeing and greater control over everyday life.

At Community Care Tailored Support, we believe people should know about the programs and community resources that may make everyday life easier.

Eligibility criteria apply to the South Australian Transport Subsidy Scheme (SATSS). Applications are assessed by the relevant government authority.

๐Ÿ’œ Your Capacity Can Change โ€” Your Right to Choice & Control Doesnโ€™t

Living with psychosocial disability doesnโ€™t always look the same from one day to the next.

A person may have days where they feel confident, organised and able to manage many parts of life independently. On another day, the same person may experience barriers that make everyday activities significantly more difficult and require additional support.

Both experiences are valid.

At Community Care Tailored Support, we believe good support starts with understanding the whole person โ€” not judging their needs based solely on what they were able to achieve on their best day.

๐ŸŒฑ Capacity can fluctuate

Psychosocial disability can affect motivation, concentration, communication, decision-making, emotional regulation, confidence, social interaction and the ability to complete everyday tasks.

Capacity may also be influenced by stress, changes in routine, relationships, the environment, unexpected events and other pressures in a person's life.

Someone being able to complete a task independently yesterday doesn't automatically mean they will be able to complete it independently today.

And needing additional support doesn't erase the progress they have already made.

๐Ÿ’œ Independence shouldn't mean doing everything alone

Sometimes we talk about independence as though success means eventually needing nobody.

We see it differently.

Sustainable independence is having as much choice, control and involvement in your own life as possible โ€” with the right support available when you need it.

For one participant, that might mean independently attending an appointment.

For another, it might mean choosing where they want to go while having a support worker assist them with planning, transport or communication.

Someone else may only need reassurance or prompting on a difficult day.

The level of assistance can change while the participant remains at the centre of every decision.

๐Ÿงก Look beyond someone's โ€œbest dayโ€

A person's strongest day shouldn't automatically become the benchmark they're expected to maintain every day.

When considering support needs, it's important to understand what a person can do safely, consistently and sustainably in real-life situations.

Instead of simply asking:

โ€œCan this person do it?โ€

We should also be asking:

โ€œCan they do it consistently?โ€
โ€œWhat barriers make it harder?โ€
โ€œWhat happens on their more difficult days?โ€
โ€œWhat support helps them remain involved and in control?โ€
โ€œHow can we build capacity without removing necessary support too quickly?โ€

That creates a much more complete picture of the person.

๐Ÿค Support should work alongside the participant

Quality support shouldn't take over someone's life.

It should help create opportunities for the participant to exercise choice, build confidence, develop skills, maintain relationships, participate in their community and work towards the things that matter to them.

Sometimes that means stepping forward and providing more assistance.

Sometimes it means stepping back and allowing someone to do something independently.

And sometimes it simply means being there, knowing support is available if it's needed.

The participant should remain in control wherever possible.

๐ŸŒŸ Progress isn't always a straight line

Recovery and capacity building can involve good days, difficult days, achievements, setbacks and periods where additional assistance is needed.

A difficult week doesn't necessarily undo months of progress.

As providers, our role should be to recognise strengths while also acknowledging genuine support needs.

We shouldn't measure people by their hardest day โ€” but we shouldn't expect them to live every day as though it's their best day either.

At Community Care Tailored Support, our approach is simple:

๐Ÿ’œ Choice โ€” your voice matters.
๐Ÿงก Respect โ€” you're an individual, not a diagnosis.
๐Ÿ’œ Understanding โ€” support needs can change.
๐Ÿงก Support โ€” assistance when it's needed.
๐Ÿ’œ Empowerment โ€” building confidence without taking away control.

You are in control. We are here to walk alongside you.

Because sustainable independence looks different for everyone โ€” and genuinely tailored support should recognise that.
