Today we marked an exciting milestone for the future of the Kangaroo Island ferry service with the official christening of Wanggami, the first of our two new ferries.
The celebration commenced with a moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by respected Elders Susan Dixon (Kaurna Country) and Mark Koolmatrie (Ngarrindjeri Country), followed by speeches from Kelsian Group Chair Fiona Hele, and Member for Mawson Jenni Mitton MP. Father David Still, of St Paul’s Port Adelaide, then blessed the vessel before Fiona officially christened Wanggami.
Following the official proceedings, guests were invited to join an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the vessel.
Thank you to the more than 100 guests who joined us to mark the occasion, including representatives from the South Australian Government, the South Australian Tourism Commission, Kangaroo Island community leaders, tourism partners, stakeholders and media.
With a drive-through design on the vehicle deck allowing easier and safer vehicle loading, increased capacity, more daily departures, improved accessibility and modern passenger lounges for a more comfortable journey, Wanggami represents an exciting new chapter for SeaLink and the future of ferry travel to Kangaroo Island.
We look forward to welcoming passengers on board Wanggami!
