Central Australian Aboriginal Congress statement which very clearly explains why Bush Bus passenger and freight services are so critical.

A bus service that has transported people and critical medical supplies to remote Indigenous communities from Alice Springs for three decades has been forced to reduce its services following a funding cut earlier this year.

5 community essential passenger and freight services are at risk. Finke, Titjikala, Areyonga, Hermannsburg, Wallace Rockhole, Willowra, Ti Tree, Santa Teresa, Harts Range and Engawala had assistance funding provided by NT Government for 10 years. This ceased on 28 February. We had to reduce services from two to one per week, due to running at a loss. Now all are at risk of being ceased.
People in remote communities deserve access to transport for their health and wellbeing - for medical appointments, education, sports, art and cultural events, to visit family, shopping (the wonderful remote shops cannot possibly supply all required products), for critical medical supplies to be sent regularly to remote clinics, for staff to be able to get to their jobs in community, and more.
NT Government, please reinstate the funding for these essential services to be able to continue.

Bill Yan, Josh Burgoyne and the CLP have cut funding for Bush Bus.

That means fewer buses and some services could stop altogether.

Bush Bus helps people get to medical appointments, visit family, get to town and get home to community.

Fewer buses also means people living out bush may have to pay more to travel. Bush Bus isn’t a free service. People living in remote communities already pay to use it but now they have to pay more for it.

People in the bush shouldn’t miss out.

The CLP needs to put the funding back and keep Bush Bus running.

So proud of team bush bus who built a magnificent and mighty boat for the Henley-on-Todd Regatta on Saturday.
Our wonderful Monica came up with the idea earlier this year and raised funds with our team collecting cans. Many others in the team joined in the building of the boat at Rhiannon’s over many months. Team bush bus Monica, Rhiannon, Heather, Manilka, Conrad, Shashin, Keith, and Kylie from Emu Run!
And everyone who saw the parade and event got to be part of the joy of our team. Thank you for making bush bus a very special place to work. ⛵️🚌🧡

Kapati Alan Passmore (dad) was inducted into the Hall of Fame National Road Transport Museum 10 years ago. I nominated him and wrote the words in the post below because he is amazing. Dad didn’t want a fuss that was about him…but at the ceremony he was very proud and shed a few tears. I took over running bush bus 18 years ago (I’m proud to be one of the owners), and dad mostly retired from bush bus not long after. He and his wonderful wife mum Lien then had a little business, Remote Meals, which sold healthy and affordable meals to our lovely passengers for many years. I love being part of the amazing and kind team at bush bus, love working with our wonderful customers and love the community in Central Australia. 🚌❤ Tahnee Passmore-Barns
