Day 4 - Following the Journey from Tree to Finished Furniture 🇮🇩

Today was one of those days that reminds me how much work goes into creating quality furniture.

I visited several very different businesses that each play an important role in the process.

First was a finishing workshop where furniture receives its final sanding, staining, colouring, and protective finishes before heading to customers.

Then I visited a large-scale chair manufacturer producing commercial-quality seating suitable for restaurants, cafés, resorts, hotels, and large projects.

The precision and consistency required when producing furniture at this scale is impressive.

Later in the day I spent time with a reclaimed timber craftsman who transforms old timber into beautiful furniture pieces full of character and history.

One piece of timber can have a previous life spanning decades before being given a new purpose.

I also stopped by a sawmill and spent some time looking at the raw timber itself.

It’s fascinating to see furniture at every stage of its journey—from the log, to the milling process, to construction, finishing, and finally into someone’s home, business, hotel, or restaurant.

Most people only ever see the finished product.

This week I’ve been fortunate enough to see everything that happens before that.

More photos and videos coming as the journey continues.

Which part of the process surprises you most?

Day 3 - Behind the Scenes of Sourcing

Today is all about materials, home décor, and supplier visits.

One thing I’ve learnt after years of sourcing in Indonesia is that the finished product is only as good as the materials that go into it.

So today I’ll be looking at fabrics, finishes, home décor collections, and visiting another furniture maker to check quality, craftsmanship, and what’s new for the coming season.

This is the part most people never see.

Before furniture arrives in a showroom or a customer’s home, there are countless decisions about materials, construction, finishes, colours, and quality standards.

I’ll be sharing some of the products and suppliers I discover throughout the day, along with a few behind-the-scenes moments that show what sourcing trips are really like.

If you’re furnishing a home, investment property, Airbnb, renovation, or simply love beautiful interiors, keep an eye on today’s updates.

You never know what we might find.

What most people don’t realise is that some of the best furniture isn’t found in showrooms.

It’s found down side streets, behind workshop doors, and in places you’d drive straight past if you didn’t know where to look.

That’s exactly why I’m in Java this week.

Over the next few days I’ll be taking you behind the scenes as I visit furniture makers, inspect current orders, check quality, and hunt for new products.

If you’ve ever wondered where beautiful furniture actually comes from before it arrives in Australia, you’re about to find out.

Come along for the ride.

Come with me to Java 🇮🇩

Over the next week, I’ll be taking you behind the scenes as I visit some of the furniture makers and suppliers we work with.

You’ll see what most buyers never get to see:

✔ Checking furniture before it leaves the workshop
✔ Meeting the makers behind the pieces
✔ Quality control inspections
✔ New product discoveries
✔ Production updates
✔ Hidden gems and suppliers I come across along the way
✔ The real streets, workshops, and day-to-day life behind sourcing in Indonesia

Many people only see the finished furniture in a showroom or online. What they don’t see is everything that happens before a piece is ready to be shipped.

Over the next few days I’ll be sharing videos, photos, supplier visits, quality checks, and some exciting new products that may become available.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like sourcing furniture and home décor from Indonesia, you’re invited to come along for the journey.

This trip is about more than shopping. It’s about understanding the process, meeting the people, and seeing how quality products are made.

Follow along as we explore workshops, inspect orders, and discover new products throughout the trip.

Update for current container 🚢

We are now on the final leg 🙌

Current ETA (all going to plan) is 24/4 into Brisbane.

Thank you for your patience while we’ve worked through the delays — we’re looking forward to getting everything through and into your hands as soon as possible.

For those planning ahead 👇
The next container is scheduled to leave in 2–3 weeks, so we’ll need goods ready for cargo around the 25th. As one lands, the next will be preparing to load.

We will also have another container departing at the end of May.

I’ll also be in Bali mid May to mid June, sourcing for clients — if you need something specific, I’m happy to hunt it down for you too.
